JOB SUMMARY As a member of the Distribution Operations team, the Manager, Distribution Operations is responsible for construction of the overhead and underground electrical distribution system, including operational and maintenance work. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Manage staff members and a budget of up to approximately $30 million Ensure that all construction and maintenance of the distribution system is performed according to industry standards Ensure the safety of employees and the protection of the public in the day-to-day operations, and ensure that contractors adhere to corporate safety standards Create and maintain a positive team focusing on productivity and effective customer service, delivering capital projects on time and on budget Effectively communicate corporate vision and direction to staff Provide advice to the Director Distribution Asset Management, on matters related to the safe operation and the short and long-term viability of the electrical distribution system Participate in the Emergency Response Organization in addition to after-hours and on-call responsibilities Prepare annual capital, operational and human resource plans, monitor the effectiveness of the operations, processes, procedures, practices on the systems, develops recommendations and implements necessary changes and improvements both at the planning and operational levels Coordinate and lead continuous improvement initiatives Know and fulfill your responsibilities as an Asset Service Provider as described in the Hydro Ottawa Strategic Asset Management Plan. As it relates to your role: Define and manage the strategies, standards, operational planning, maintenance planning, and capital planning of Hydro Ottawa’s assets; and Efficiently implement of the operational plans, maintenance plans and capital works plans for Hydro Ottawa assets. Within the context of the Asset Management Plan, review distribution specific operational issues and budget data to recommend asset replacement and upgrades to the Manager, Asset Planning Continuously review and implement human resource planning by selecting staff, ensuring appropriate training is provided, delegating tasks and assignments, defining goals, communicating feedback on performance and ensuring strict adherence to all health and safety standards and other applicable laws and regulations Effectively communicate corporate vision and direction to staff Review operational plans and budget data to extract and translate relevant responsibilities into projects and annual work plans for the installation of new, upgraded, replacement of obsolete distribution equipment and apparatus Maintain an awareness of developments in the electrical utility field, determine feasibility and make recommendations on their application at Hydro Ottawa Ensure a sound electrical distribution system is maintained by following company material and construction standards. Represent the utility with external stakeholders by establishing and maintaining strategic relationships including government agencies, industry colleagues, etc Ensure adequate response time to outages by ensuring the type and quantity of equipment, material, supplies and personnel required to effectively deal with emergency situations are in place Perform other duties as required EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university Be, or be able to become, a Professional Engineer licensed in the Province of Ontario Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operations; or Certified Engineering Technician or Technologies with a minimum of 5 years of experience in operations; or A journeyperson in an electrical trade with 15 years’ experience, 5 years in a supervisory position Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements Computer expertise, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite of products English language skills essential, Bilingualism (French/English) considered an asset This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
