Job Summary What is the Opportunity ? We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Commodities Origination Analyst to join our dynamic team in Calgary. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in trading, capital markets, or commodities, coupled with exceptional analytical skills and a keen understanding of the energy and natural resources sector. This role is crucial in supporting the development and execution of commodity origination strategies and fostering long-term partnerships with clients and stakeholders. Job Description What will you do ? Market Analysis & Strategy Development: Conduct in-depth market research and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks in the commodities space, with a focus on energy. Support the development of origination strategies to optimize profitability and align with the company’s goals. Deal Structuring & Execution: Assist in structuring and negotiating commodity transactions, including physical and financial contracts, swaps, and hedging strategies. Collaborate with trading desks, risk management teams, and internal departments to ensure seamless deal execution. Client Relationship Management: Work closely with existing clients to identify new business opportunities and provide tailored solutions to meet their needs. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, traders, and other market participants. Risk Assessment & Compliance: Evaluate credit, market, and operational risks associated with transactions and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Monitor and report on key performance indicators and risk metrics. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams to ensure alignment on business objectives and operational efficiency. Provide insights and recommendations to senior management to support decision-making. What do you need to succeed ? Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. A master’s degree or CFA designation is considered an asset. 2-5 years of experience in commodities trading, capital markets, or a related field. Strong understanding of commodity markets, including pricing mechanisms and risk management tools. Proficiency in financial modeling, data analysis, and the use of trading platforms or analytics tools. Exceptional presentation and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information effectively to diverse audiences. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships. Analytical mindset with a detail-oriented approach to problem-solving. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Preferred Skills and Experience: Knowledge of the North American energy markets, particularly oil, gas, or power. Experience with derivatives, hedging strategies, or structured products. Familiarity with regulatory requirements specific to commodities trading in Canada. What do we Offer ?
