What is it like to be a Manager of Data Engineering & Delivery at Northbridge Financial The Manager - Data Engineering & Delivery is responsible for managing data projects and lead a combined team of BSAs, Data Analysts and Data Engineers. You will work with business, EPMO, IT leadership, teams, and partners to identify needs, manage delivery of new data solutions using agile/waterfall delivery methodology. We want your talent If you are great at: Manage scope definition, functional and technical design, build, deployments for data projects – EDLH Datamarts, data warehouse, Data Lake, Data Store etc. Manage delivery of data solutions to address data transformation initiatives identified in the data strategy. Balance data delivery function with a focus on data initiatives, EDLH and other data projects as required to support IT/EPMO portfolio. Review options and proposals regarding development/enhancements and make recommendations regarding the technical impact including effectiveness, feasibility, and effort for specific solutions. Oversee and guide data engineering team efforts to implement data solutions defined by the solution designers and architects. Establish data engineering design and development standards in collaboration with Data Operations and proactively, identify and implement improvements. Responsible and accountable for ETL/ELT code delivery for data engineering initiatives. Accountable for all delivered code quality through the project delivery lifecycle. Implement best practices for code management, code versioning, code deployment and all aspects related to software engineering using Azure DEVOPS. Own all project documentation like mapping documents, design, scheduling, SLA documentation during project execution. Collaborate with other teams to ensure data engineering work is not blocked and progressing per established plans. Manage vendor teams on an onsite/offshore model to deliver data projects. Work with solution designers, architects to estimate data engineering technical efforts for new change initiatives. Understand the functional aspects of Enterprise Data Warehouse, data integrations, data marts. Establish and maintain data engineering sprint velocities and track delivery. Identify technical risks to project delivery. Maintain and publish status reports to IT leadership. Facilitate knowledge transition sessions as projects get handed over to Data Support. Research new technologies and approaches that can benefit the IT team; create proposals and present ideas to supervisor. Manage stakeholders within IT and business and gain their confidence and build rapport. Develop job skills and knowledge to adapt new techniques and perform assignments of increasing complexity. Coordinate the staff evaluation process - Inspect work done by people in the Coe; Gather performance input from key stakeholders; Conduct performance evaluations; Determine compensation plans and career paths for IT positions. Other duties as assigned. If you have: Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science or Computer Engineering degree is preferred) and/or equivalent on the job experience. Project management experience. 10+ years of experience in IT systems and design, development, and operations Minimum 6 - 8 years of supervisory/management experience required. This should include some experience leading a team of BSA, Data Engineers Data projects execution experience for data ingestions, data integration, data marts, data warehouses Insurance (P&C) domain knowledge. Knowledge of the Insurance Industry including Claims Processing, Underwriting, Reinsurance and Policy and forms Generation is a definite asset. Experience in Application Lifecycle Management, including the use of Azure DEVOPS. Effective communication skills. Ability to implement business requirements, with minimal guidance. Strong understanding of current best practices in application architecture such as Test-Driven Development, Continuous Integration, Software Version Control, and Design Patterns.
