Full-time permanent (40 hours per week)
5 Days a week with some flexibility; core work days to include Sunday & Tuesday on-site, some additional weekend and evening commitments
Compensation: $80k per annum plus benefits

Direct Reports: Camp Director (Seasonal), Community Outreach Coordinator (Part-Time)

About Knox Presbyterian Church
Knox Church is an urban, evangelical and Reformed community with an emphasis on expository preaching, local and global missions, and intercessory prayer. Role Overview
At every age, Jesus calls us to follow him and know him. We desire for the Kids, Teens, and Families at Knox to be full participants in the life of the community, in worship and in service. The Pastor for Family Ministries leads the church in offering age-specific spaces where Kids, Teens and Families can build friendships, feel cared for, safe to ask questions, and find mentoring relationships that encourage them in their faith journeys. The Pastor for Family Ministries helps to equip Kids, Teens, and Families to follow Jesus, with opportunities to serve the community through various outreach opportunities/projects in partnership with other Ministries at Knox.
As a member of the Knox staff team, the Pastor of Family Ministries is a passionate advocate for children and youth (newborns to grade 12). They are responsible for developing and implementing a practical theology and strategy for family ministry that includes ministry to children, youth and their parents/caregivers. This role oversees and is responsible for all aspects of ministry to children and youth at Knox. The mission includes prayerfully coming alongside caregivers in efforts to help them help their children and youth become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ and enfold them into the life of the church.
We desire to see the Kids, Teens, and Families of Knox and of the surrounding neighbourhoods, encounter the living God and be welcomed into our community finding love, safety, purpose and support.
The Pastor of Family Ministries oversees the following ministry areas:
Family Discipleship
Equipping parents/caregivers to nurture the faith of their children
Kids Ministry
Nursery (currently no supervised nursery provided)
Tiny Tots (age 1-4)
Knox Kids (age 5-11)
Youth Ministry
Knox Teens (gr. 6-12)
Knox Camp
7 weeks of full day daycamp for kids aged 4-14 with a Leaders in Training Program
Community Outreach Ministry
Supports Knox’s Community Outreach Ministry which serves single mothers of young children
Objectives
The Pastor of Family Ministries strives to ensure that every child and youth involved with Knox has the opportunity to:
hear and engage with the Gospel
gain knowledge and understanding of the Bible
be connected to and participate in discipleship activities, and
grow in love and relationship with Jesus
Responsibilities
Support/Resource Families
Disciple kids and youth, using the discipleship model that reinforces our commitment to whole-life Gospel transformation and local church integration.
Foster healthy relationships with families and their kids, encouraging, supporting, and collaborating around faith formation.
Provide training and resources to families to integrate faith into their life together at home throughout the week
Host events that encourage relationships between families in the church and that mark significant moments of the church year in ways that are engaging for children
Act as first tier pastoral care for families, referring/escalating using the pastoral care triage framework as required. This may include tasks like supporting families in crisis, arranging meals or other physical support to families in transition or need, providing pastoral support and encouragement, praying with families or kids
Children’s/Kid’s Ministries
Provide vision, direction and oversight for all aspects of Kids’ Ministry
Be a catalyst for the formation of community among families at Knox, providing a warm welcome, effectively enfolding them and extending appropriate pastoral care.
Champion intergenerational worship, outreach, and discipleship strategies
Identify, recruit, train, and resource people as Kids’ Ministry volunteers
Select and/or develop age appropriate Bible/Sunday School curriculum
Prepare appropriate lesson plans and equip leaders to teach in engaging ways
Once each season, provide physical resources to families in the form of curriculum packages, encouragement notes, gifts, and other materials.
Youth Ministries
Establish the mission, objectives, philosophy, strategy and a process of evaluation for youth ministry
Recruit, equip, empower and prayerfully support volunteer leaders as youth mentors/disciplers
Develop culturally sensitive age appropriate programming/opportunities for youth.
Host youth group semi-monthly
Invite youth to participate in supporting kids ministry and in worship
Provide pastoral care and discipleship to teens one on one as well as in groups
Knox Camps Ministries
Provide oversight for the Knox Camps ministry
Review the mission, objectives, philosophy, strategy and a process of evaluation for the camp
Write and apply for the Canada Summer Jobs grant
Hire, develop and supervise the Camp Director
Hire, train and prayerfully support the paid and volunteer camp staff
Act as staff resource for the camp team
Act as liaison between the Camp Ministry and the congregation, session, and wider community with respect to promotion, funding, general administration, etc.
General
Spend regular times in prayer for the needs of those involved in the leadership of the ministries you oversee
Maintain a regular visible presence at worship services with special presence and leadership for key kids and youth activities
Attend to your own spiritual formation
Participate in weekly pastoral staff meetings, staff chapel, and monthly all-staff meetings
Work collaboratively with other pastoral staff and Elders to pursue the vision, mission and values of Knox Church
Set, oversee and administer your annual ministry budget
Screen all family ministry volunteers and ensure compliance with the PCC Leading with Care Policy
Skills & Qualifications
A mature Christian with a servant heart
5+ years experience in leading ministry for families, kids, & youth
A relevant university degree or college diploma preferred (theological education preferred)
Committed to serving others, supporting leaders, and cultivating team ministry
Proven ability to connect with people across generations and advocate for the importance of children & youth in the life of the church
Demonstrated ability to build community and to work and serve in an intercultural and intergenerational context
Strong relational skills and a high EQ, with keen pastoral instincts
Strong communication skills both verbal and written, with proficiency in English
Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and maintain resiliency in a dynamic environment
Strong project management expertise
Computer proficiency (Mac OS, Google Docs, Office 365)
Must be eligible to work in Canada
