This role is ideal for someone with a solid foundation in hydraulics, coastal processes, and the design of coastal structures.
As a Coastal Engineer you will contribute to meaningful, real-world projects by supporting and leading aspects of coastal infrastructure design—from planning through construction. Collaborating across multidisciplinary teams and offices, you’ll help deliver solutions that enhance coastal resilience and sustainability. What You'll Be DoingPerform a variety of assignments requiring the application of moderate-to-advanced design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria with limited guidance from senior engineers.Focus on the design of coastal structures.Support the planning and design of coastal projects.Lead the collection and analysis of data.Develop project manuals, including plans and specifications.Assist in project management, including client interaction, project budget and schedule control, and coordination of quality control procedures.Support construction observation and contract administration of construction projects.Participate in proposal preparation and client interviews.Work across different offices and time zones.QualificationsWhat You BringB.S. in civil, coastal engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline from an accredited university or college. (Master's preferred)Professional Engineering License (P.Eng).7+ years of coastal engineering experience in a consulting or contractor role.Demonstrated experience in project design or construction involving coastal structures, ecosystem restoration, and/or navigation and dredging.Working knowledge of design guidelines, codes, and standards related to coastal and marine engineering.Ability to clearly document the basis of design and design development, including data analysis, assumptions, calculations, and conclusions.Ability to effectively collaborate with a team of coastal, marine, and geotechnical engineers; coastal and ecological scientists; geomatics specialists; CAD drafters; and surveyors.Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally, sometimes with short notice, to meet project deadlines.Bonus ForConstruction experience related to waterfront and coastal projects.Proven project management experience.Additional InformationBaird is employee-owned.
