The Vice President, Renewables, Operations is an operations leader responsible for managing the post-construction relationship between GFL landfill operations, GFL Renewables in its role as JV partner and GFL Renewables JV partners for the renewable energy operations within our GFL Renewables portfolio in Canada and the U.S. The role also involves overseeing operations of renewables energy facilities that are owned solely by GFL. Key Responsibilities: Renewables Operations Management Work with the renewables project delivery team to proactively identify any design or construction decisions that could impact operations and plan for them. Proactively support innovation/efficiency in landfill gas management and RNG plant operations to maximize gas recovery, including identifying and evaluating opportunities for optimizing plants during planning, development and post construction of plants, in alignment with business goals and landfill regulatory requirements. Collaborate with renewable energy operators and landfill operators to recommend improvements to achieve forecasts and oversee implementation. Lead the preparation and regular reporting for the regular review of business and operating performance for GFL’s renewable energy operations. Build the annual budget for the renewable energy facilities that GFL solely owns and review and recommend for acceptance the annual budgets developed by the JV operators for the facilities that we have developed with JV partners. Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure financial, operational, production and environmental success of renewable energy operations. Protect GFL’s interests (compliance, reputational, operational) at GFL’s renewables operations. Leadership & Collaboration Take a leadership role in driving results (financial, production) at GFL’s renewables operations through collaboration, influence, coordination with landfill operations and renewable energy operations. Collaborate with a cross-functional team of experts (internal and external) in landfill gas management, environmental compliance, finance and accounting, sustainability, and renewable energy development. Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the organization through data-driven decision making, transparency and clear communication of expectations. Knowledge, Skills and Competencies: Strong business acumen, and experience managing for business outcomes to drive revenue growth and operational efficiency. Deep knowledge of landfill gas management including applicable regulatory regimes. Knowledge of gas upgrading process technologies is an asset but not required. Strong understanding of developing and managing large-scale capital projects at landfills. Strong leadership and executive presence, with experience influencing business leaders and operations managers decision-making. Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments in the U.S. and Canada. Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and project planning skills.
