M&A Business Development Associate Hybrid (1 Day/Week in Office-Toronto) Job Description: Hiring a full-time M&A Business Development Associate in Toronto, ON. In this role, you will identify vertical market software (VMS) companies within the insurance, financial services/asset management vertical(s) and adjacencies by proactively engaging with VMS business owners that meet our investment criteria. Skills You're Bringing: Sales Acumen: Strong oral communication skills, advanced cold calling skills (including: "Getting past the gatekeeper," and quick to establish rapport), lead conversations off-script, cold emailing, comfortably interact with mature business owners. Work Ethic: Works proactively, persistence, efficient, self-directed, extraordinary work ethic, and competitive. Intellectual Curiosity: Able to qualify leads by piecing together information to develop a view on the business, interested in improving processes and experimenting. This is already in the desired experience category below. Experience using Excel and Salesforce would be a plus. What You'll Be Doing: Establishing and building relationships with decision makers (business owners, operators, and C-suite executives) of acquisition targets. Proactively following up with business owners that are seeking to sell their business. Developing industry knowledge and attending in-person meetings with business owners. Present qualified acquisition candidates to the internal M&A committee at the weekly meeting. Build and maintain a proprietary database of industry contacts, expanding our network. Ultimately sourcing deals: Signing Non-Disclosure Agreements ("NDAs") with these qualified leads to obtain financial and operational information. Willingness to travel up to 15%. Outcomes Will Include: Consistently have a minimum of 2 substantive calls with business owners every day. We will have our finalized BD KPIs by the end of March, so please omit this point for now. Follow up to ensure that information requests get fulfilled for all qualified prospects. Present qualified acquisition candidates to the internal M&A committee at the weekly meeting. Conduct industry research to identify attractive markets. Plan/attend trade shows and geographic prospecting trips.
