It fuels our innovation and connects us closer to the community we serve.Job DescriptionReporting to the Recreational Programmer, the Recreation Assistants (Special Events) will help run programs, community events, tourism initiatives, and other special events throughout the year. These may include working with community organizations, leading day camps and sports programs for youth, Music in the Park, Canada Day, International Youth Day, Indigenous Day, and more.As a Recreation Assistant (Special Events), you will be responsible for creating a fun and engaging environment for children and ensuring their safety and well-being. You will be responsible for leading a variety of entertaining activities, games, and events that promote social interaction, creativity, and physical activity. Your enthusiasm, creativity, and ability to connect with children will be essential in making the camp experience memorable and enjoyable for all participants.Work will vary and may include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays; hours of work are not guaranteed and are based on operational requirements with the exception of the Summer Day Camp Program. The Summer Day Camp Program runs Mondays-Fridays from June 30 – August 30 (8:00 am – 4:00 pm). The Casual Recreation Program Assistant will be expected to be available for the entirety of the Summer Day Camp Program. QualificationsRequired Knowledge – Education, Training & ExperienceExperience working with children in a camp, recreational, or educational setting is preferred.Experience planning events or recreation activities is preferred.Required Skills & AbilitiesStrong communication and interpersonal skills.Enthusiasm, creativity, and a passion for working with children.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.For new hires and those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, employment is conditional on a satisfactory police information check.Additional InformationThe City of Merritt offers a total compensation package of $20.76 per hour, comprehensive well-being benefits, an employee and family assistance plan (EAP) and exclusive perks.We are actively recruiting for this position; for full consideration, please apply today.
