Company DescriptionChronological ageing is a biological process that results in accumulated cellular damage, ultimately driving the onset of metabolic disfunction. We aim to develop new therapeutic approaches to these ageing-associated diseases, by targeting metabolism in cancer stem cells (CSCs) and senescent fibroblasts. More specifically, we will screen a series of chemical libraries containing FDA-approved drugs, natural products, and novel chemical entities, to identify compounds that can effectively age-associated metabolic features. Through this screening and validation approach, we will identify compounds that preferentially kill CSCs and senescent fibroblasts, using established cell lines. This position will involve the screening and discovery of drugs that target the metabolic phenotype of senescent cells and cancer stem cells, across multiple cancer types.Job DescriptionThe purpose of this role is to support Lunella Biotech’s mission in the discovery of anti-ageing and anti-cancer therapeutics.ResponsibilitiesTo engage with Lunella’s mission to fight ageing and cancer by developing novel therapeutic strategiesTo develop research objectives in connection with the project outlined above and in agreement with the laboratory headsTo perform experiments in the laboratory to test hypotheses regarding ageing and cancerTo write up draft reports for manuscript publication and patent evaluationTo present data as required, during lab meetings and conferencesTo assist in the supervision of graduate students and staffTo collaborate with members within and outside of the laboratoryTo comply with Health and Safety regulationsTo promote equality and diversity and sustain an inclusive and supportive work environmentThis role detail is a guide to the work you will initially be required to undertake.
