We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Purchaser to oversee and actively manage the procurement of goods and services. This role ensures competitive pricing, favorable terms, and timely delivery while maintaining compliance with company policies and quality standards. The Purchaser will work closely with Operations, Finance, and Leadership to develop and implement procurement processes that align with the organization's strategic goals. This role is based out of Sudbury, ON. What you will be working on: Leadership: Oversee the Supply Chain Management (SCM) team across multiple geographic locations and divisions. Foster a high-performance culture built on ethical standards, accountability, agility, and innovation, in alignment with corporate values. Build, develop, and retain a high-performing team capable of executing strategic procurement initiatives while mitigating risk. Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to the SCM team on strategic sourcing principles and procurement best practices to drive performance and maximize cost savings. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to centralize procurement processes, enhance policy adherence, and support operational success through a unified organizational approach. Standardize procurement procedures to improve operational efficiency, enable cross-functional support, and enhance reporting for strategic decision-making. Develop and maintain analytics, data management systems, key performance metrics, and reporting tools to drive continuous improvement. Supply Chain Management: Plan, organize, and oversee procurement activities related to the organization’s projects. Partner with the corporate SCM team to develop and execute strategic sourcing and category management strategies that align with business objectives. Analyze spending patterns, vendor utilization, and market trends to inform strategic sourcing initiatives and category management strategies. Continuously assess market conditions to optimize procurement decisions and ensure availability of materials and services. Develop and implement contract management strategies with preferred vendors, ensuring optimal terms, cost savings, and risk mitigation. Lead complex negotiations for procurement of equipment, materials, and services. Establish and maintain supplier relationships to secure high-quality products and services at competitive prices. Review purchase order claims and contracts to ensure compliance with company policies and financial standards. Prepare and review contracts, bids, proposals, and vendor agreements to ensure alignment with specifications, pricing, and terms. Purchasing: Develop and implement procurement plans that align with strategic sourcing initiatives while maximizing efficiency. Provide expert guidance on procurement and contracting to internal project teams and stakeholders. Standardize supplier selection, procurement policies, and vendor management practices to ensure consistency and cost optimization. Implement vendor management strategies focused on quality, cost control, delivery efficiency, and continuous improvement. Lead complex contract negotiations, leveraging data analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate contractual risks. Oversee procurement operations across multiple expense categories, ensuring synergy and cost savings through strategic purchasing. Collaborate with the national SCM team to drive cost reductions, improve procurement processes, and provide financial reporting to Finance and Operational Leadership. What we are looking for: Minimum 10+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, with at least 5+ years in a leadership role. Post-secondary degree in Business, Commerce, Economics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation is considered an asset. Strong expertise in developing and implementing end-to-end supply chain processes, procurement strategies, and best practices. Contract management experience, including knowledge of contract structures, commercial terms, and supplier performance metrics. Proven ability to manage and maintain high-value relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility and rapport across all levels of the organization. Experience in industrial construction is considered an asset. Ability to work in compliance with safety and environmental regulations in construction settings. Experience working with executives and senior leadership, with a demonstrated ability to communicate risk assessments and performance metrics effectively. Ability to align, lead, and develop a high-performing team to support organizational goals, with a strong results-driven approach. Experience in developing and delivering training programs, presentations, and procurement strategies. Superior analytical and problem-solving skills. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Power BI, Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook), as well as ERP systems (ViewPoint, SAP, MDM Semarchy) and SharePoint (an asset). Willingness and ability to travel (approximately 25%) to project sites across Canada.
