SUMMARY The role of the Shipping Supervisor is to direct, plan, organize, and control the company’s shipping’s operations to ensure that the company’s supply network is sustained and operating in an efficient and effective manner while maintaining a safe and productive work environment whereby team has clear direction, goals, training and accountability. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES May include, but are not limited to, the following: Health, Safety and Environment Demonstrates a personal commitment to and ownership of the HSE policies by leading by example and being knowledgeable in safety policies Creates an environment of openness, trust, and mutual respect which allows employees to excel in HSE performance Clearly communicates HSE policies and expectations on a regular basis and holds direct reports accountable for meeting expectations Manages HSE expectations by frequent warehouse safety observations, by identifying and correcting workplace hazards, and by coaching employees through one-on-one contacts Ensures safety procedures are being followed when operating forklifts and other machinery Maintains a safe working environment in the warehouse area for all employees and forklifts Assures that working safely is truly a condition of employment Supports and adheres to Westlake HSE initiatives such as Westlake Life Critical Rules, Safe Start, and STAR Facilitates training for employees on safety rules, regulations, and procedures Provides appropriate injury response and case management for employees and leads or participates in accident investigations Utilizing formal corrective action along with recognition and rewards to produce desired behaviors Shipping Sets the tone and expectations for daily activities using strong leadership skills and proper utilization of shift group leaders. Works closely with customer service to align resources to demand Leads internal efforts in developing implementation of best practices, establish standard operational procedures and develop/track key KPI’s throughout the shipping operation Identify areas of improvement and establish innovative or adjust existing work procedures and practices Manage day to day shipping operations, measures performance for on-time, in-full delivery performance, shipping costs for all forms of transit, shipping productivity and quality, and workforce planning requirements Investigate cause analysis issues for problem reconciliation and leads corrective action for complaints related to transportation, logistics handling and shipping of finished products Accomplishes warehouse human resource objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures Ensures that all carriers comply with legal, quality and safety standards Confers with department heads to ensure coordination of shipping activities with activities of other functions such as production, sales, quality control and purchasing Keeps equipment operating well by enforcing proper operation, training and implementing suitable operator level PM’s, supply detailed information on service requirements to maintenance; Tracking equipment uptime Maintains storage area by organizing floor space; adhering to storage design principles; recommending improvements Implementation of Lean Manufacturing concept (5S, VSM, Kanban, etc.) Implementation and overall responsibility of shipping management & organization system (ex. implement a safe and effective floor plan by using a strategic approach) Able and willing to cover for other supervisors, managers, lead hands and others as needed Other duties as assigned EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Must have had 5 years in relative experience Understanding of inventory and cycle courting Bachelor’s Degree (BA) preferred Lean manufacturing experience Ability to lead a large team of hourly employees Excellent/strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to interact with all levels of the organization Proficient computer skills, with good working knowledge of all standard company applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.) Must have a valid forklift license Excellent time management and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality Willing and able to work with JDE system and other enterprise softwares Must be able to work an 8-hour biweekly rotating shift (Day & Afternoon) 7am to 3pm & 3pm to 11pm Westlake is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
