Hiring Unit: Department of Chemistry Position Summary: Management, training of users, operation, and maintenance of materials characterization instrumentation within the McGill Chemical Characterization (MC2) facilities in the Department of Chemistry, including, specifically: Management, training of users, operation, and maintenance of Powder X-ray diffraction. Management, training of users, operation, and maintenance of Small-angle X-ray scattering methods. Management, training of users, operation, and maintenance of Single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Management, training of users, operation, and maintenance of Infrared spectrometers. Management, training of users, operation, and maintenance of Thermal Analysis Equipment (DSC, TGA and hot-stage optical microscopy). Management, training of users, operation, and maintenance of Surface Analysis Equipment (BET, DVS). Conduct laboratory experiments and other research in the fields of: Materials Chemistry (covalent organic frameworks, metal organic frameworks and related supramolecular systems): Photovoltaics (solid luminescent materials); and sustainable chemistry (heterogeneous catalysts). Compile research results, analyze results and submit articles or papers for publication. Other instrumentation as assigned by the Chair of the Department. Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities: Extensive experience in management of instrumentation, including user training and providing services that lead to publications or other impact in the context of research and/or technology; Expertise in mechanochemical techniques; Expertise in X-ray diffraction techniques, including analysis of crystallographic structure determination; Expertise in thermal analysis techniques; Expertise in surface analysis techniques, including gas sorption analysis; Prior experience in research facility management; Track record of research, in the form of publications; Proficient in both speaking and writing English. Experience and education: Ph.D. in Chemistry and/or Materials Science. Minimum 5 years post-doctoral experience in materials science and instrumental techniques for materials characterization. Experience in management of materials and structure analysis instrumentation, including users training and providing services that lead to publications or other impact in context of research and/or technology. Active research experience and independence in project planning. Experience in working with students and/or other junior researchers.
