Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Energy Analyst Intern for Fall 2025 to join our Energy Engineering Team. This role involves assisting with greenhouse gas reduction designs, energy efficiency projects, and sustainability analyses. The intern will help evaluate and optimize building energy systems, and create conceptual designs focusing on energy efficiency, renewable energy solutions, and sustainability within the MUSH sector (Municipalities, Universities, Schoolboards, and Hospitals). As an Energy Analyst Intern, you will contribute to analytical tool development, investment grade energy audits, and engineering studies. Job Responsibilities
- Gather and analyze building energy, utility, and environmental data.
- Review drawings, reports and other relevant data sources to create pre-project summaries.
- Prepare benchmarking reports and energy performance summaries.
- Design and develop analytical tools.
- Perform preliminary technical and economic analyses for energy efficiency and GHG reduction opportunities.
- Participate in on-site energy audits and site visits to assess energy efficiency and identify opportunities for energy solutions.
- Contribute to energy modelling (IES VE/RETScreen), creating baselines, and simulating energy solution strategies.
- Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and supporting materials for project deliverables.
- Conduct research on emerging technologies and regulations in energy efficiency.
- Monitor and implement energy efficiency programs, track progress and reporting.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders to achieve project goals.
Skill Requirements
Required:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Energy, Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of renewable energy technologies, and building energy systems (HVAC-R, lighting).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Strong analytical expertise, problem-solving ability, and clear communication skills.
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills with attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
Nice to have:
- Programming: Python or R for data analysis and modeling.
- Familiarity with the CAGBC - Zero Carbon Building Standards
- Experience with energy benchmarking tools such as ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
- Knowledge of energy audits (ASHRAE 211), building operations, and utility rate structures.
- Experience with solar photovoltaics modelling software (HelioScope).
- Experience with building drawings (mechanical/electrical/structural), building condition assessment reports.
- Knowledge of Measurement and Verification protocols, such as the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP)
