Our challenge We are seeking a highly experienced Business Analyst to champion risk governance and data management initiatives within our organization. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in data lineage, risk assessment, data quality, and governance frameworks, with a proven ability to lead complex programs across cross-functional teams in the BFSI sector. Additional Information* The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Mississauga, ON is CAD $130k – CAD $140k/year & benefits (see below). The Role Responsibilities: Data Lineage - Conduct interviews with data stewards, owners, and reporting stakeholders to document end-to-end data flow. Map data movement from source to consumption, identifying manual enrichments or transformations. Create lineage diagrams aligned to enterprise standards. Identify lineage gaps or breaks and flag them for remediation. Data Risk and Control Assessment Perform walkthroughs with data and control owners to understand data risks in ingestion, transformation, and consumption. Document and assess existing manual and automated controls (preventive, detective). Use internal risk taxonomies and templates to support risk assessments. Recommend enhancements and define closure strategies for identified control gaps. Data Quality Assessment - Validate business rules and thresholds; collaborate with vendors and internal teams for profiling. Apply anomaly detection using tools (e.g., Anomalo) and manual techniques. Recommend remediations based on profiling insights and support rule refinement. Document profiling results in a traceable format. Issue Management and Remediation - Log and categorize issues by severity, impact, and ownership. Partner with teams to maintain issue remediation plans and track progress. Facilitate governance reporting and documentation updates. Testing - Drive validation efforts for data quality rules, lineage completeness, and control effectiveness. Evaluate both manual and automated data process integrity. Collaborate with QA teams to co-develop test cases, acceptance criteria, and reporting. Use Case Onboarding Process Standardization - Design and document templates for risk use case requirements. Capture lineage for individual use cases and record associated risks. Standardize compliance documentation and support process templates for issue management. Transition from Capture to Operational Attestation - Develop a structured handoff framework from project to operations. Standardize documentation and tracking templates. Conduct training for operational teams and implement feedback loops for continuous improvement. Requirements: 5–8 years’ experience as a Business Analyst in Risk, Data Governance, or Financial Services. Understanding of data lineage, data quality, and risk control frameworks (e.g., COSO, COBIT). Proficient in data documentation tools (Collibra, Alation) and visualization (Visio, Lucidchart). Experience with risk issue management platforms and remediation tracking. Strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder management skills. Preferred, but not required: Familiarity with data profiling tools like Anomalo or Great Expectations. Knowledge of financial data flows and reporting in banking or capital markets. Exposure to regulatory requirements (BCBS 239, GDPR, CCAR, SOX, etc.). Certification in risk or data governance (e.g., CRISC, DGSP, CDMP) is a plus. Work with Data Governance Office, Risk Management, IT, Internal Audit, and Compliance functions. Support change management efforts with training, templates, and feedback mechanisms.
