About the Role:
The Analyst, Retirement Programs will play a key role in the Human Resources operations of the Canadian Utilities and ATCO Structures & Logistics defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join an engaging and impactful team, while playing a pivotal role in the delivery of retirement programs, including assisting in the development and roll-out of financial education programs, engaging with employees and leaders from across the business to tailor programs which meet the needs of Plan Members, and actively participating in the development and implementation of administrative and regulatory functions associated with pension plan operations.
This role also offers the unique opportunity to learn about, and engage with, financial and investment related aspects of the pension funds.
What You Get to Do:
Pension Plan Administration
Oversee pension processes including reconciliations, audits, actuarial valuations, annual statements, pension adjustments, and pension adjustment reversals
Provide support for the completion of annual statements, membership reconciliations, non-routine calculations, contributions, payments, and expenses
Ensure compliance by completing accurate and timely government filings
Review and update contracts, plan design documents, and communication materials
Maintain compliance with legislation and governance processes
Lead succession planning, maintain desk manuals, record processes & procedures, and organize documentation
Liaison
Collaborate with third parties, administrators, insurers, consultants, vendors, and internal departments
Resolve issues and proactively address third-party vendor concerns
Support HR Business Partners and the Employee Resource Centre by providing pension-related advice and support
Manage information flow between internal departments and third-party providers
Oversee pension programs and ensure processes, interfaces, and systems are on schedule
Pension Committee Engagement
Develop and distribute materials for Pension Committee meetings
Assist with executive summary materials for meetings and record minutes
Financial Operations Support
Support the ongoing financial monitoring and reporting of defined benefit pension plans
Assist with monthly asset rebalancing, cash management, and vendor payments
Provide support in finance-related pension matters
Pension Plan Education:
Lead internal education initiatives, collaborate with vendors, Business Units, and Corporate Communications
Develop strategy for member education sessions and communications content
Manage vendor relationships including design considerations, service provider vetting, and contract oversight
Monitor costs and prepare budget recommendations
Maintain in-depth understanding of program provisions
What You Bring:
Previous experience in the operations and administration of defined contribution and defined benefit pension plans
Undergraduate degree in Commerce/Business, Human Resources, or other closely related field
Previous experience in communicating retirement planning concepts to audiences of varying backgrounds and levels of familiarity
Knowledge of retirement and savings programs (i.e. LIRA, RESP, RRSP, TSFA, etc.) and how they can be used to help employees improve their financial wellness
Working knowledge of legislation and government programs with respect to defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans
Experience working with external service providers and managing working relationships in a professional manner
Strong attention to detail
Excellent analytical skills with natural curiosity and desire to understand complex concepts
Exceptional customer focus with strong professional acumen
Outstanding communication and presentation skills
Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively manage competing priorities and tight deadlines
Dedicated team player, who demonstrates a high degree of initiative, independence, and personal accountability
Excellent understanding of Microsoft Office and proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Having completed, or working towards completing, a professional designation within a related field is an asset
