Hands-on Software Architect
Location: Guelph, ON - Hybrid preferred. Remote available.
Hiring Salary Range: $110,000 - $130,000

We are searching for our first Hands-on Software Architect to
design and build the Friendlier platform, mentor existing developers, collaborate with product and operations teams, review code, and maintain coding best practices.
About the Role:
As the Hands-on Software Architect at Friendlier, you will be responsible for designing high-level software solutions and ensuring they meet technical and business requirements. Actively coding everyday, you will also guide the development team by making critical decisions about structure, technologies and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Implement security best practices to protect data and applications
Review and refine system designs based on feedback and new requirements
Design systems that can handle future growth
Optimize performance by addressing bottlenecks and ensuring efficient resource usage
Work closely with lead developer and product to align technical decisions with business objectives
Create blueprints and technical documentation for the development team
Reviewing developers’ code to ensure adherence to architectural guidelines, best practices and performance standards
Spend at least 50% of the time coding
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the development team.
Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to continuously improve our software development processes.
Debug and troubleshoot complex production issues, ensuring platform reliability.
Contribute to sunsetting legacy applications through a phased migration approach.
What you Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
10+ years of experience:
You have 10+ years in tech engineering roles of increasing responsibility and sophistication including prior experience as an architect
High level languages like Javascript with exposure to various frameworks, React, Vue, Angular, etc.
Cloud environments, building and deploying applications on platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Both monolith and microservice architectures. Understanding of RESTful APIs and experience in building and consuming them.
Database systems, both SQL and NoSQL, and understanding of data modeling in large complex systems.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop a high-performing R&D team.
Excellent communication, and presentation skills.
Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset and a passion for driving positive environmental impact.
