EPCOR's Water Services group (EWS) is excited to announce a permanent full-time opportunity for an Asset Management Engineer. This role is part of the One Water Planning (OWP) Team and is based at our Aurum site in Edmonton, Alberta.

As the Asset Management Engineer, you’ll play a key role in overseeing the full lifecycle of EPCOR’s linear assets, which includes flow control facilities (FCF) and related infrastructure. From inspection and monitoring to maintenance planning and lifecycle replacement, you’ll ensure these critical assets are managed with precision and foresight. Your work will involve maintaining accurate asset records, analyzing performance data, and developing strategies for timely rehabilitation or replacement.
Collaboration is central to this role. You’ll work closely with teams across project management, engineering, planning, operations, and construction to align asset strategies with organizational goals. You’ll lead the development of condition assessment requirements, create asset management plans and specifications, and provide expert recommendations for both capital and operating plans. Your ability to build strong business cases will help secure the funding needed to ensure the long-term reliability and performance of these essential systems.
What you’d be responsible for
In the role of Asset Management Engineer, you are accountable to the Linear Assets Manager and will have the following key accountabilities (but are not limited to these):
Strategic Planning & Execution
Develop and support Operational Plans, Asset Management Plans, and Roadmaps aligned with business strategy and industry standards.
Prioritize work and recommend lifecycle strategies for linear assets, ensuring safe and reliable operations.
Identify required budgets and resources, anticipate challenges, and build internal partnerships to ensure successful plan execution.
Deliver on annual objectives, resolve issues, and remove barriers to meet strategic targets.
Data-Driven Decision Making
Use data analysis, visualizations, and modeling to inform capital and operational planning across PBR cycles.
Monitor asset health and recommend interventions (inspection, rehab, replacement), including business case development.
Conduct QA/QC, risk assessments, failure analysis, and spares management to support asset reliability.
Develop condition assessment standards and analyze data to support planning and asset management.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
Build strong cross-functional relationships with internal teams (engineering, operations, planning, etc.) and external industry partners.
Collaborate with colleagues to gather asset performance data, resolve issues, and support informed decision-making.
Contribute to a high-performing team by fostering collaboration and sharing technical expertise.
Team & Knowledge Development
Strengthen understanding of asset management principles and Flow Control Facility operations.
Support a culture of continuous learning and contribute to team capability and performance.
What’s required to be successful
Qualifications, experience and behaviours you possess are:
Completion of a Mechanical Engineering Degree in (or a related field) from a recognized post-secondary educational institute.
Professional recognition by an approved authority such as a P. Eng through APEGA.
Experience that includes:
5 years of related work experience with operations/maintenance/replacement of relevant assets (pipes, pumps, buildings, etc.).
Project management principles and the importance of operating to cost, quality and time specifications.
Key Skills and Knowledge:
Asset Management
? Skilled in capital planning, O&M strategies, lifecycle optimization, and resource planning.
? Knowledgeable in aging asset strategies and system reliability improvements.
? Strong understanding of asset registers, including spatial, performance, condition, and historical data.
Analysis & Decision-Making
? Proficient in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI).
? Strong analytical and problem-solving skills across qualitative and quantitative domains.
? Experienced in applying continuous improvement principles and making informed decisions.
Financial & Regulatory
? Skilled in cost forecasting, budgeting, and financial evaluation.
? Experience supporting regulatory filings for capital and operational projects.
Performance & Risk
? Applies performance monitoring techniques such as trend analysis, condition assessment, and degradation modeling.
? Proficient in risk management, including probability, consequence analysis, and risk prioritization.
Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
The following qualifications are considered strong assets and will enhance a candidate’s suitability for the role:
Knowledge of pump asset management.
Experience managing infrastructure projects and/or budgets.
Prior involvement in data analysis and the preparation of business cases, project charters, or asset management plans.
Additional certifications or formal training in Asset Management.
Familiarity with Asset Management principles, including knowledge of ISO 55001 and PAS 55 standards.
