Position Summary: Reporting to the Health Manager, the Community Wellness Coordinator will conduct a community engagement process, facilitate implementation of priority initiatives including staff and community training and community programs. The community Wellness Coordinator is a trauma-informed individual with knowledge and/or lived experience related to Mental wellness, and an understanding of the history and impact of colonization and residential schools on First Nations meant health and wellness. Also practices from an indigenous worldview that recognizes and respects the values, beliefs and customs of individuals, families and communities and adheres to best practices. Roles & Responsibilities To plan and complete a five-year Community Wellness Plan for Musqueam Indian Band, Including: · To conduct an audit of feedback that the community has previously provided to staff; recent workshops; events and sessions · To present an audited findings along with next step · Implementation of wellness strategies of Musqueam Health · To plan and implement a community engagement process for Mental wellness and report out on past mental wellness engagements identify any gaps in services. · To research, plan and coordinate staff and community training activities described in the community wellness plan. · To host activities that enhance healing and community connection, including program planning, · To develop a protocol for staff when a suicide or suicide attempt has occurred, including Clinical supervision. · Organize and book traditional wellness healers, implement workshops and training for youth, community members and staff. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities · An understanding of Musqueam community and local knowledge · Degree in Community Social Services or related field, or a combination of education and experience. · Three to five years experience working with First Nations communities on Menal health issues, trauma, and mental health and wellness program planning. · Experience working with First Nations communities in the area of community engagement and community wellness planning · An understanding of the BC healthcare system, including health care authorities, · Knowledge and understanding of First Nations communities, health and social issues · Cultural competency and knowledge of the MIB’s cultural traditions considered an asset · Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patient medical information and records · Creating opportunities to facilitate clients’ understanding and participation in health and healing initiatives · Skill in the use of workplace technology, i.e. computers, communications equipment, business software. · Excellent communication skills (spoken and written) and the ability to communicate tactfully with others · The ability to professionally meet, and address the public, as well as provide information in a pleasant, helpful and confidential manner · Ability to problem-solve and take initiative to resolve problems · Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for work purposes · Successful Criminal Record Check Working Conditions · Work is performed in an office environment and out in the community · After hours work may occasionally be required due to program demands.
