The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits. Who You Are
Mikisew Cree First Nation is currently seeking a compassionate and reliable Indigenous Wellness Support Worker based in Edmonton, Alberta. In this part-time position (22.5 hours/week), you will provide culturally respectful, client-centered support to MCFN members in their homes and in the community. You are someone who thrives in a relationship-based care role and values dignity, independence, and wellness for all clients—especially Elders and vulnerable community members. You bring a deep respect for Indigenous cultures and are committed to supporting holistic, trauma-informed care.
Roles & Responsibilities
Conduct regular in-home wellness visits and provide social connection.
Provide transportation or chaperone support for clients attending medical or personal appointments.
Engage in therapeutic, culturally appropriate conversations that offer companionship and emotional support.
Assist with light housekeeping (tidying, vacuuming, dishes, laundry).
Help with grocery shopping and essential errands, respecting traditional food preferences where possible.
Assist with simple, nutritious meal preparation aligned with cultural dietary practices.
Maintain confidentiality and build trust with clients and families.
Work closely with Wellness Manager and other internal/external service providers
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience working with Indigenous individuals or communities strongly preferred.
Knowledge and respect for Indigenous cultures, values, and traditions.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an empathetic, non-judgmental approach.
Ability to work independently in client homes with professionalism and accountability.
Must have valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation.
Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector screening.
First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
Physically able to lift approximately 30 lbs.

Willingness to work flexible hours including occasional evenings or weekends based on client needs.
Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and commitment to wellness-focused service delivery.
Ability to maintain a calm and supportive presence in diverse client situations.
