We currently have an exciting opportunity as a Transportation Specialist. This role is based in our Corporate Offices in Oakville Ontario and reports to the Transportation Operations Manager. Job Summary The Transportation Specialist is responsible for managing transportation spend, conducting budget analysis, and tracking key performance indicators (critical metrics) to optimize our transportation spend. In addition, this role involves coordinating shipments that fall outside the scope of the Managed Service Provider (MSP), including external logistics (3PL) movements, asset and production component shipments, inbound of finished goods and raw materials, and returns. The specialist ensures efficient and cost-effective transportation processes across various shipping categories, working closely with internal teams and external vendors to ensure timely deliveries and financial optimization. Principal Responsibilities Budget Management: Analyse & control transportation spend, track rate compliance, and ensure budget alignment with company goals. Identify cost-saving opportunities and help optimize utilization. Important metric Tracking: Develop, track, and report on transportation critical metrics. Support Transportation Manager with Monthly Business Review (MBR) to monitor and improve transportation efficiency and performance. Coordination of Shipments Outside MSP Scope: Manage, quote, and coordinate shipments outside the scope of the Managed Service Provider, including: 3PL (Third-Party Logistics) movements. Asset and production component shipments. International inbound shipments of finished goods and raw materials. Returns and reverse logistics processes. Vendor & Carrier Relations: Collaborate with key vendors and carriers to ensure rate compliance, importance of IPEX safety standard compliance, provide scorecard feedback around service, and conduct QBR with key partners. Cross-Functional Teamwork: Work closely with internal teams (logistics, procurement, finance, etc.) to ensure seamless execution of transportation activities and alignment with business objectives. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in either supply chain management, logistics, or operations management, is preferred 5-10 years experience in transportation operations Experience with truckload, LTL, intermodal, and courier(parcel). Understand both Canadian and US rate structures, tariffs, and fuel surcharge programs Have the ability to adapt to and manage growth Strong analytical skills, along with transportation budget analysis, cost tracking, and critical metric reporting. Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SAP, or other business intelligence software). Experience handling shipments outside traditional transportation frameworks (MSP, 3PL, international inbound, etc.). Excellent communication and negotiation skills to manage relationships with vendors and carriers. Ability to prioritize and coordinate complex shipments efficiently. Travel to some production and distribution centres maybe required in both Canada and the US Experience with transportation management systems (TMS) is a plus.
