Bird Heavy Civil is recruiting Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanics to join our team. Qualifications: The candidate should possess the following knowledge and skills: A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a heavy civil construction environment performing regular maintenance duties associated with Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, and John Deere construction equipment. Fall Protection, Power Lines Hazards, Air Brake Endorsement, WHMIS 2015, Utility Safety Training, First Aid, and Lock-Out/Tag-Out Training would be required. Familiar with Safety Instrumented Systems, My Komatsu, and Cummins computer applications. Ability to work proactively and effectively, with excellent organizational and task execution skills. Must be able to work in a team environment. Knowledge of standard Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements and practices in the construction industry. Must be able to work on rotational basis (14-14 FIFO) on remote sites/camp accommodations. Must be able to work day and night shift. Valid driver’s license or equivalent would be an asset. Air Brakes endorsement required. Site location: Sudbury, Ontario. Duties: The duties associated with this position may include but are not limited to: Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair of equipment in a heavy civil construction environment. Testing repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications. Regular interaction with other construction equipment. Exercise extreme caution with awareness of potential situational hazards to ensure site safety. Responsible for the safe operation of equipment while following manufactures and industry standards in a productive work environment. Attend daily pre-shift meetings and toolbox meetings. Interpret verbal and non-verbal communication (including hand signals) from others and acts accordingly. Other duties as required.
