Working under the supervision of a (Senior) HR Consultant and with other members of the team, the incumbent is responsible for providing support on a full range of basic human resource services to client departments. Specifically, the HR Advisor provides support in such areas as: recruitment, job evaluation, salary administration, employee orientation, performance management, labour relations, re-organizations and layoffs, employment practices and legislation and the interpretation and application of staff policies and collective agreements referring more complex issues to (Senior) HR Consultants or other HR Advisors with more specialized knowledge/experience. Under general direction, the HR Advisor will also work with the Assistant Director or Director on special projects and initiatives which may include data collection and HR reporting. The HR Advisor is an integral part of the HR Team and is expected to maintain a high standard of professionalism, striving to ensure timely, quality results for all clients while maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of relevant University policies, collective agreements and government legislation.
Qualifications Required:
Education:
University degree in a relevant field of study; completion of (or working towards) Certificate in Human Resource Management (CHRP), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 to 3 years’ experience working in a Human Resources department with experience in recruitment, job evaluation, collective agreements and HR policy interpretation and application. Familiarity with academic environments preferred.
Skills:
Proficient computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Power point); demonstrated experience working with databases and/or HRIS; knowledge of legislation relevant to employment practices.
Other:
Demonstrated client service orientation; excellent interpersonal skills with ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a broad range of clients particularly concerning difficult or sensitive situations; maintains confidentiality as required of all HR professionals; ability to communicate effectively; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; detail oriented; ability to work as an effective team member and efficiently meet required deadlines.
This is a term assignment to September 2026.
