We are currently seeking a Payroll Coordinator to join our team.
The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for the preparation of payroll for First West and its subsidiaries, while ensuring processes are consistent with internal policies and statutory requirements. Through teamwork and collaboration, this role supports team members and leaders regarding payroll matters.
Here’s what would be included as a part of your typical day
Payroll Cycle: Processes payroll transactions accurately and timely for multiple pay cycles; ensures that commissions, draws, and other special payments are appropriately processed; investigates errors or items that require attention and work with Manage Service to resolve discrepancies.
Compliance: Verifies payroll related entries are posted correctly and ensures compliance with internal policies and statutory requirements. Maintains and updates pay records, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
Support: Supports the organization with payroll inquiries; assists users with time entering and approvals; and communicates with stakeholders regarding payroll issues, information, and deadlines.
Processes and Procedures: Documents procedures and prepares communications related to payroll processing; and research topics/policies where needed.
Year End Support: Assists with year-end payroll procedures, including validating statutory reporting and T-slips; provides payroll information for financial reporting disclosures; and sets up payroll for the new year including updating benefits enrollment information.
Continuous Improvement: Seeks opportunities to optimize technology, improve workflow/processes and create employee self-service opportunities; provides this input and ideas to leadership.
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Diploma in a related field required; bachelor’s degree in business administration is an asset or an equivalent combination of experience and education
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) courses towards designation an asset
2 years payroll experience and working knowledge of the Employment Standards Act is an asset.
Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner
Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment
Working knowledge of MS Office Applications
Working knowledge of payroll systems, Dayforce experience would be an asset
Displays an understanding of risk and risk ownership by being able to demonstrate adherence to policies and procedures.
