Alexa Daily Essentials is hiring a Senior Applied Scientist to lead
groundbreaking innovations on large language models to enhance Alexa's language
understanding, knowledge representation, reasoning and generation capabilities.

The Alexa Daily Essentials team delivers experiences critical to how customers
interact with Alexa as part of daily life. We drive user experiences connected
to Timers, Alarms, Calendars, Food, and News. Our experiences include
productivity boosting features, ad-supported news audio and video, and in-depth
kitchen guidance aimed at serving the needs of our users from sunset to sundown.

experiences that stretch across the customer journey, and new AI technologies
that enables customers to send Alexa information for future recall and

As a senior Applied Scientist, you will bring deep expertise to lead innovation
in AI. You will work with complete autonomy to transform your vision into
high-impact results. You will mentor and guide a team of junior scientists, and
help them navigate challenges. You will also collaborate across teams, determine
strategic directions, establish technical excellence, and guide the team in a
fast-paced and ever-changing landscape.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead projects where you and your team rapidly prototype and deliver ML/LLM
solutions to Alexa users.
- Lead and deliver high-impact research project focused on advancing LLM
capabilities in areas like agentic AI systems, personalization, and reasoning.
- Define and establish LLM best practices and operational excellence for both
science and engineering teams across the organization.
- Work closely with engineering, product, and user experience teams to integrate
your science breakthroughs into the Alexa ecosystem.
- Guide and mentor junior scientists and engineers to foster a culture of
inclusion, innovation, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
- Publish in top-tier conferences and journals to establish our reputation as a
leader in AI research.
- Contribute to the develop of the organization's AI strategy, keep up-to-date
on emerging trends and opportunities for differentiation in the AI landscape.
Basic Qualifications: - 6+ years of building machine learning models for
business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
- Experience with conducting research in a corporate setting Preferred
Qualifications: - Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark
MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.
- Experience in building speech recognition, machine translation and natural
language processing systems (e.g., commercial speech products or government
speech projects)

The base salary for this position ranges from $195,900/year up to $327,200/year.
Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related
knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of
compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in
