ABOUT THE ROLE
Bethany is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Maintenance Worker I to join our Housing team. Under the leadership of the Maintenance Supervisor the maintenance worker is responsible to ensure the building and grounds are well maintained and secured for the safety of tenants, visitors and staff.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Ensure the property is safe for tenants, visitors and staff by performing rounds on a regular basis
Promptly responds to all emergency calls for maintenance services
Repair and maintain hardware, fixtures, furnishings, carpet and flooring including minor plumbing and HVAC maintenance and repairs
Ensure grounds are maintained including maintaining lawns, sidewalks, parking areas and roads by removing snow, salting, and sanding during winter months, and arrange for major snow removal if necessary
Responds to emergency situations such as fire, power outage, or water damage in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Responds to general maintenance requests
Submit written reports of action taken when responding to situations with tenants, building and system changes
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all occupational health and safety and emergency preparedness and response policies and procedures and tenant safety as would be impacted by the Maintenance Department
WHAT YOU BRING
Grade 12 education or recognized equivalent
1 year maintenance experience, preferably in a residential apartment environment
Able to work effectively in a physically and mentally demanding environment
Must demonstrate an acceptable level of reading, writing, and comprehension of English language skills.
Valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable vehicle
Proven ability to organize and prioritize various demands
Must have a working knowledge of fire codes, building codes, and general safety regulations
On call availability, flexibility for reallocation to different sites as needed
Familiarity with the Residential Tenancies Act an asset
Building Operator Certificate an asset
