Detailed OverviewUnder the direction of the Manager, Clinical Services or delegate promotes and supports breastfeeding for childbearing and postpartum women by assessing, planning, advising and providing care relative to breastfeeding.
Responsibilities
- Provides breastfeeding education and support to expectant mothers and postpartum women.
- Assists breastfeeding mothers with resolution of breastfeeding difficulties by assessing, evaluating, diagnosing and recommending plan of care. Makes appropriate referrals.
- Delivers nursing care by assisting mothers to initiate and sustain lactation and breastfeeding.
- Maintains database of patient records and follows up on intervention outcomes.
- Collegially shares expertise to nursing staff and other health care professionals by providing information, education and assistance related to breastfeeding and difficult clinical problems.
- Participates on appropriate committees such as the Breastfeeding Committee.
- Performs other related duties as required.
QualificationsEducation and ExperienceCurrent practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Graduation from an approved School of Nursing. Current certification in breastfeeding (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). Two (2) years' recent experience in neonatal or perinatal.
