The University of Toronto Scarborough has been a leader in co-operative education and work integrated learning (WIL), for 50 years. Co-op and WIL give students an opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom, and to expand their knowledge through related work experience. The Department of Arts and Science Co-op is responsible for preparing over 3000 undergraduate students from 58 academic areas to compete for paid co-op work term opportunities. The department is also responsible for engaging industry partners who provide these work terms. A coordinated effort among the stakeholders of student, employer, and university co-op programming contribute to the development of well qualified graduates who are prepared to assume a productive role in society. Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Partnerships and External Relations, the incumbent plays a vital role in the department to ensure that co-op students have a wide range of quality, paid co-op work term opportunities to apply to.
The Industry Outreach and Marketing Specialist is a new role and is focused on developing and executing a growth marketing strategy to increase co-op employer engagement within some key growth and established industry sectors including but not limited to, Life Sciences, Healthcare, Technology, Government and Finance. This role would be entirely external focused and would not have components of internal and/or student-centered marketing. The role aligns closely with business development and external relations goals and sector strategies. The successful candidate will design and deliver targeted campaigns that address the unique hiring needs, challenges, and priorities of employers in key industry segments. This includes developing employer (buyer) personas, crafting tailored messaging, and executing account-based marketing (ABM) tactics to reach and convert high-value organizations.
Key responsibilities include creating and managing multichannel digital outreach using databases, email marketing automation and CRM tools. The role will also lead all inbound marketing efforts, supported by high-impact content such as industry-specific hiring guides, co-branded success stories, sector specific collaborative podcasts and webinars, referral and recognition programming, case studies, and other thought leadership pieces aligned with sector trends. Collaboration with Business Development staff members is essential to ensure alignment with sector-level employer engagement strategies.
In consultation with the Assistant Director, the incumbent will set an annual plan for their work plan and performance targets for developing existing and new industry sectors and employers while creating and implementing account retention strategies.
This position differs from general marketing communications by focusing on conversion, lead generation, and strategic industry outreach, rather than internal or broad-based awareness efforts. It requires a strong understanding of B2B marketing within professional sectors, familiarity with marketing automation and analytics platforms, and an ability to translate sector data into actionable marketing tactics.
While balancing all stakeholder needs effectively, the ultimate goal is to drive measurable growth in employer participation in the co-op program, by creating marketing experiences that resonate with industry audiences and support long-term relationship building.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising on marketing best practices and brand-building opportunities
- Implementing marketing plans to strengthen brand profiles
- Developing and implementing marketing plans to promote programs, events and/or initiatives that support strategic objectives
- Developing a digital media plan that supports marketing/communications strategy
- Conducting market research and analysis
- Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
- Drafting and editing content for print and/or online communications channels
- Maintaining information on digital platforms
Essential Qualifications:
- University degree in marketing, communications or related field, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Five years of progressively more responsible experience in B2B marketing including content development, account based marketing and digital advertising
- Must possess proven experience developing web content and experience with content creation tools
- Proven track-record of successfully developing and implementing marketing communications initiatives

- Must demonstrate project management skills and be capable of executing a variety of creative, persuasive, cost-effective marketing communication projects within deadlines and on budget
- Knowledge of AODA standards
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Excellent writing, proof reading and editing skills
- Detail oriented and accuracy are paramount
- Strong communication (verbal and written), research and presentation skills
- Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel

- Must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills who can also work independently to meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision
Assets (Nonessential):
- Previous experience working in post-secondary environment or corporate environment
