This position is responsible assessing morbidity through a comprehensive risk evaluation process comprised of health, financial, lifestyle, occupation and personal history within pre-determined authority levels. The incumbent would be in a full production environment. The process is aligned with product pricing, with the mandate of acquiring and maintaining profitable business. Strategic priorities encompassed within the role include high quality client service and robust risk assessment. What will you do? • Provide superior client-focused underwriting service which balances sales objectives within risk tolerance and profitability objectives that contributes positively to persistency and reputation in the marketplace • Ensure competitive underwriting recommendations are consistently made on a timely basis to RBC clients in order to place business that is consistent with RBC pricing and profitability objectives • Seek new opportunities to reduce new business acquisition costs by reducing department wastage through increased modified offers, reconsiderations and offer additional products on declines, postpone and rated policies • Ensure audit results are within acceptable ranges • Maintain quality of underwriting decisions in all areas of UW as determined through audits by management, GRM, Internal Audit and Reinsurers What will you need to succeed? Must have: • Minimum 3 to 5 years of Individual Life or Living Benefits Underwriting experience • Analytical - synthesize complex or diverse information, collect and research data, use intuition and experience to complement data • Problem Solving - gather and analyze information skillfully • Strong oral and written communication skills • Teamwork - contribute to building a positive team spirit • Motivation - demonstrate persistence and overcome obstacles; measure self against standard of excellence as well as motivating others • Quality - look for ways to improve and promote quality, apply feedback to improve performance, and monitor own work to ensure quality Nice to have: • Working knowledge encompassing the underwriting risk evaluation of Disability and Critical Illness insurance products Special Conditions Please note the successful candidate will have the ability to work out of any province.
