In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations our Financial Planning & Analysis department is currently hiring for Financial Analyst. This is term position, which may be for a period of up to 60 months, offers a competitive compensation package and is based on-site at Tiverton, ON. The successful candidate will be responsible for client and decision support, cost reporting, budgeting, variance analysis and business analytics, forecasting, business planning support. In addition, this role may be responsible for month end tasks including journal entries, reporting, forecasting, preparation of working papers, recording financial obligations and transactions in the financial system, and conducting financial reviews of critical business areas including business case analysis. This person must be able to demonstrate ability to work within strict deadlines, work independently and produce quality output in a rapid work environment. Note: More than one position may be required. Key Responsibilities: Provide support to the Finance department in carrying out the accountabilities in accordance with applicable legislation, programs, policies, procedures and agreements Provide advice, guidance and general day to day financial system maintenance and user support to the finance team to carry out their financial functions efficiently Maintain a professional awareness in relation to current accounting practice, IFRS/GAAP, and general business environment and the utility industry and be able to communicate impacts and implications throughout the business Support management reporting requirements (e.g., internal financial statements, performance reports, Statistics Canada, other internal reports and ad-hoc reports) utilizing financial systems and other inputs. Provide business reviews in critical areas such as overtime, contract management and outages. Provide business case analyses in support of key purchase and investment decisions Support client groups in the managing of their budgets & business plans Conduct detailed analysis of financial information, systems and processes as required Provide support for the financial and system audits Maintain desktop procedures documentation current on system maintenance and support activities Knowledge and Skills: Theoretical knowledge and relevant experience within the designated discipline is required Demonstrated ability to achieve task results consistent with requirements for safety, quality, quantity, timeliness, and resource allowance Able to demonstrate capability related to; analytical thinking & problem solving, work planning & organizing, and communication skills Demonstrated motivation and commitment to achieving organizational goals and to continual improvement Demonstrated ability to persuade and influence others, and to convey clear expectations and goals. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team and to lead others towards common goals Requires knowledge of academic subjects of financial accounting practices, principles, and concepts; management accounting and control; audit, financial management including planning, budgeting and performance reporting, decision support systems, business economics, information systems and relevant computer skills Requires good interpersonal skills and knowledge of communication techniques Requires good communication skills, both oral and written, to facilitate effective communications with others Requires a good understanding of the interrelationships and role of organizational units, interrelationships between work groups, external contractors and consultants involved, and the mechanics of resolving any controversial issues Education and Experience This knowledge is normally considered to be acquired through the successful completion of a four-year university education in a relevant discipline, or attainment of a professional accounting designation (i.e. CPA) or by having the equivalent level of education such as an MBA A professional accounting designation (i.e. CPA) may be preferred depending on the location of the role Requires experience in an Accounting or Financial environment to achieve a level of proficiency sufficient to understand all aspects of the Management Accounting & Planning or Corporate Financial functions Requires some practical experience in the working with various line functions to understand aspects of work programs and projects directly or indirectly associated with financial operations A period of over 4 years and up to 6 years is considered necessary to gain this experience Are you ready for a change?
