About the Role
Reporting to the Coordinator, the Youth Worker is responsible for facilitating year-round youth programming across the Municipality of Clarington. The role focuses on providing social, recreational, and life skills development opportunities that align with the Clarington Youth Centres’ (CYC) programming pillars. As a front-line team member, you will build strong relationships with youth, model professionalism, and contribute to the development of a safe, respectful, and empowering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Program Delivery and Youth Engagement
Support the design and delivery of youth programs that reflect the interests and needs of participants.
Create inclusive, supportive environments through strong relationship-building, confidentiality, and trauma-informed practices.
Model respectful behavior and professionalism to positively influence youth participants.
Provide brief counselling support and de-escalation during moments of conflict or crisis.
Assist in connecting youth to relevant community resources and referrals.
Collaborate with staff to ensure consistency and best practices across youth centres.
Program Administration and Operations
Track client participation and ensure attendance records are up to date.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized program environment.
Ensure adherence to safety procedures and duty-to-report guidelines.
Participate in agency and program meetings and contribute to planning efforts.
Attend mandatory training sessions and workshops as required.
Support youth events, fundraising activities, and promotional campaigns where applicable.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Certifications
Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Work, Social Services, or related field.
Valid First Aid/CPR certification.
Crisis Intervention and ASIST training (considered assets).
Safe Food Handling Certificate (asset).
Valid G-class driver’s license and insurance (asset).
Experience & Skills
Previous experience working with youth aged 12–18.
Skilled in developing and delivering group-based youth programming.
Proven ability to engage and build rapport with youth in dynamic environments.
Effective in de-escalation, brief counselling, and crisis response.
Strong understanding of youth development, challenges, and needs.
Skilled in maintaining professional boundaries and managing confidentiality.
Familiar with current youth trends and engagement strategies.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and virtual engagement tools.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience acting as a role model and mentor for youth.
Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Working Conditions

Exposure to communicable conditions in a public setting.
