Associate Lawyer Editor – Practical Law Canada
Role Summary:
To support the content creation and maintenance processes for Practical Law Canada.
About the Role
As a Associate Lawyer Editor, you will be:
Supporting authoring process for Practical Law Canada materials by researching changes in the law and authoring, reviewing or editing portions of resources as directed by PL Canada Lawyer Editors.
Developing and demonstrating expertise with Practical Law products and editorial tools.
Engaging in continuous learning and experimentation to develop expertise with internal and customer-facing Artificial Intelligence tools, including grading AI-generated outputs and developing a strong understanding of prompting skills and techniques.
Participating in the testing and development of new product features including AI-driven solutions.
Researching, writing, editing, updating and publishing legal updates for PL Canada resources created by in-house Senior Specialist Legal Editors (SSLEs) and third-party contributors.
Tracking updates to websites, caselaw and legislation. Filtering and relaying this information to the appropriate parties to support the timely maintenance of Practical Law.
About You
You’re a fit for this role if you are a strong team player and will possess:
an LL.B or J.D. degree;
experience working as a lawyer or student in a law firm or in-house environment.
excellent drafting and writing skills, including very close attention to detail; an impressive command of grammar, punctuation and plain English, and the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
a general understanding of how AI and LLM systems work along with a willingness to learn more about these tools.
enthusiasm, with a desire to improve the efficiency of legal services.
strong analytical, problem solving and issue-resolution skills.
strong planning and organizational skills.
Strong technical skills with software-as-a-service products and content management systems preferred.
