Our client is a licensed reinsurance company that established within the last decade. The company specializes in underwriting property, casualty, and specialty lines of business. It operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of a U.S.-based holding company, which is the result of a joint venture between a specialty insurance organization and a mutual insurance provider.
Our client is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated professional for the role of Financial Controller, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer in its Bermuda office. This is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting, financial reporting, and systems processes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage, coach and develop an accounting team, ensuring day-to-day operations are effectively managed and deliver high-quality output
Maintain a robust system of accounting records
Develop and maintain a comprehensive set of internal control policies, processes, and compliance standards to mitigate risk and ensure the accuracy of the Company’s reported financial results
Responsibility for the quarterly financial statements and management information, including variance analysis against budget and forecast
Preparation of budgets and forecasts, and BMA regulatory reports
Oversight of the preparation of US GAAP financial statements and liaison with external auditors
Oversee treasury management
Recommend and implement improvements to systems, reporting tools, and processes
Other ad-hoc projects as required
What you’ll need
An internationally recognized accounting certification i.e. CPA, CA, ACCA or equivalent
7-10 years post-qualified accounting experience within the (re)insurance industry, including recent experience in a Controller-level position
Proven experience managing and developing high-performing finance teams
Deep understanding of (re)insurance accounting and investment accounting practices
Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and business planning
Strong knowledge of US GAAP, regulatory rules, and Bermuda regulatory reporting requirements
Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with senior leadership and cross-functional teams
Advanced computer literacy skills, and proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills with an ability to work with all levels of management
Experience with SunSystems is an asset
Excellent communication and presentation skills
A proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic environment
