Job DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Health and Safety Manager is a pivotal leader, responsible for driving compliance and fostering a proactive safety culture. This role involves leading the Health and Safety team, collaborating with site leadership, and mentoring stakeholders to ensure adherence to MBC policies, procedures, and OHS legislation. Key duties include ensuring compliance to corporate policies, implementing site safety plans, conducting injury reviews, championing injury reduction initiatives, and managing safety metrics. The position emphasizes leadership, adaptability, and communication while requiring expertise in safety protocols, certifications, and team-building. Success is measured by fostering cultural improvements, achieving operational milestones with embedded safety standards, and promoting a "Zero Injury Culture" across all levels of the organization.Goals and ObjectivesFoster a safety-focused culture where safety is integral to every manufacturing process.Drive improvements with leadership buy-in for safety initiatives.Create a culture of shared responsibility for safety across all teams and departments.Achieve operational milestones while embedding safety as a critical success factor.Organizational RelationshipThis position reports directly to Corporate - Director, Environmental, Health & SafetyKey ResponsibilitiesLead the Health and Safety Team while providing support to site projects to drive compliance and safety excellence.Ensure compliance of Corporate Policies, Procedures, Programs and AuditsCollaborate with Site Leadership and EHS team members to execute the Site Safety Plan deliverables and countermeasures.Coach, mentor, and guide stakeholders—including managers, supervisors, engineers, and the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)—to ensure compliance with MBC Policies, Safe Work Procedures (SWP), and OHS legislation.Stay updated on provincial, and company health and safety regulations, ensuring full compliance across all operations.Coordinate and conduct injury review processes to identify root causes and implement effective injury reduction initiatives.Champion a "Zero Injury Culture" by promoting safety-first initiatives and conducting comprehensive safety training programs.Manage a site wide ergonomics program with onsite therapist provider.Track and report safety performance metrics and lead plant safety committees to foster continuous improvement.Function as the emergency response roll call coordinator, driving business continuity plans and emergency preparedness efforts.Manage on-site security initiatives and ensure all provincial regulatory requirements are met.Oversee the administration and review of Made Safe – Safe Work Certification.Act as a key safety resource for projects, driving best practices.Support the site for all shiftsPerform other duties as may be assigned at management’s discretion.Skills, & AttributesTechnical Skills:Safe Work Certified Approved Internal AuditorAdvanced knowledge of OHS Management Systems, provincial safety legislation, and risk assessmentFamiliarity with OSHA regulations an assetFamiliarity with Lean tools and methodologiesExcellent oral and written communication skills.Must have analytical reasoning and problem solving capabilities.Balanced approach to technical, business and people aspects of business.Soft Skills:Strong team-building, communication, and leadership abilities.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.Ability to challenge the status quo with a "change agent" mindset.Adaptable, with exceptional interpersonal and time-management skills.Proficient in teaching and engaging with all levels of an organization.Team and CollaborationWork as part of a corporate safety team while leading and mentoring a site safety team.Collaborate proactively with site leadership to integrate safety requirements into all operational tasks through meetings, training, and ongoing support.Challenges and OpportunitiesAddress resistance to change and demonstrate the value of safety improvements, and balance productivity.Collaborate effectively with leadership, providing support across all shifts.Opportunity for growth through participation in strategic initiatives and projects.Additional AttributesProven ability to drive change and foster positive improvements in operations.Support Management of Change processes with clear, positive communication and collaboration.QualificationsEducation & ExperienceExperience:3–5 years leading a team using a collaborative, team-building approach.3–5 years of hands-on experience integrating health and safety into operational processes.Education:BS degree in Safety, Engineering, Human Resources, Environmental Sciences or a related field.Diploma/Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.Relevant certifications (CRSP, CRST, CHSC) considered an asset.Company Culture and ValuesMake the team better Celebrate success; give feedback to improveGet actively involved and share your perspectiveBe boldMake big commitments to deliver big resultsFail fast Champion improvementTrust the tools to drive resultsDon’t wait for someone else to find a better wayEmbody the "4 Basics":Safe and Clean WorkplaceQuality at or above expectationsComplete on-time deliveryFashion product at a fair priceAdditional InformationFor nearly 70 years, MasterBrand has been shaping the places where people come together, enriching lives and creating meaningful memories for our customers.
