Learn more at shn.ca Job Description: It is an exciting time to join SHN's Privacy, Risk and Emergency Management portfolio. Reporting to the Director, Privacy, Risk and Emergency Management, this management position is the central lead for SHNs Integrated Risk Management program. In this position, you will lead Risk Management and Emergency Preparedness programs and teams and play a key role in supporting the execution of a revitalized Integrated Risk Management Framework to support SHN teams in meeting the needs of the diverse populations we serve. The Incumbent will: Risk Management: Develop and implement related operational strategies, policies, business processes and procedures related to the work of the Risk Management department. Work with colleagues across the organization, participating in investigations into risk issues to determine cause and recommend corrective action. Support corrective action including reviewing documentation, policies and procedures to enhance service excellence. Oversee the review and recommendations for amendments to complex agreements and contracts which include insurance and indemnification obligations. Utilizes research and data analysis tools to assess risks and generate comprehensive reports, memos, reports, dashboards and briefings. Lead Record Retention policy and process. Medical-Legal: Manage the entire claims process, ensuring that claims are processed efficiently, fairly, and in compliance with SHN policies and legal requirements. Respond as a representative of SHN to external requests related to large claims. Interfaces with legal representatives on the adjudication of serious claims. Invites and prepares SHN leadership and staff to meet with adjuster/lawyers, and to be the hospital representative where appropriate. Develops, monitors and reports on key performance indicators and key risk indicators. Develop, monitor and report on key performance indicators to Quality of Care Committee Insurance: Updates annual insurance (Crime and Liability, Property) for all SHN sites. Works with teams to complete and monitor the annual HIROC Risk Assessment Checklist. Product Recalls: Manages corporate product recall process. Develops metrics and reports on process. Develop and conducts training sessions on risk management practices and legislative compliance for internal stakeholders. Emergency Management/Preparedness: Lead and work with the Emergency Management Specialist to develop, implement, and manage the hospital’s emergency preparedness framework, ensuring SHN’s readiness to respond to a range of emergency scenarios including natural disasters, pandemics, and hazardous material incidents. Build organizational resiliency by maintaining and enhancing the hospital's emergency preparedness and business continuity plans, aligning with the latest standards and best practices. Lead the development and implementation of SHN’s Business Continuity Plan, ensuring the hospital’s critical operations can continue during planned downtimes or unforeseen disruptions. The successful applicant will possess: Undergraduate degree or equivalent with major course work in Risk Management Canadian Risk Management designation or Paralegal License preferred. 5-10 years progressive experience in Risk Management within a health care environment. Knowledge of risk assessment and management theories, principles, techniques, and methods, Experience in Healthcare Emergency Management desired Experience interpreting and applying legislation, policies, and procedures related to claims management process and risk mitigation in health care. Understand the medico legal process and experience working with legal counsel. Superior research skills coupled with the ability to write reports, policies and procedures. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to influence decision-making while demonstrating tact and diplomacy. Experience with change management at the corporate level Experience with risk management software and data analysis tools is highly desirable.
