Learn more at shn.ca Job Description: Job Description Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) practices independently within their scope of practice when the patient(s) condition indicates predictable outcome. The RN delivers nursing care based on a pre-set plan of care with a delineated range of intervention. Collaboration is required from the RN in situations that are beyond the scope of complexity designated to the RPN. You will provide exceptional “customer service” to patients and families within an inter-professional, team environment. You demonstrate professional accountability for your practice and are able to identify and pursue opportunities to meet your learning needs. Position Overview: Reporting to Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning implementation and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centered environment. You will be part of a busy 24 bed acute Medicine/Oncology unit with 18 beds allocated for patients who have chosen a palliative approach to care. Our team focuses on providing specialist pain and symptom management, empathetic, dignified patient/family centered palliative and end-of-life care and high-quality acute nursing care. You will be able to participate in continuous education opportunities and workshops to help further your education. You will be able to bring your passion Oncology nursing to the department while advocating for patients and caregivers alongside RN’s and RPN’s. Requirements: • Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in good standing • Current BCLS • 2 years of experience in Acute Medical Nursing or recent related clinical placement experience • Recent Palliative Care experience (within the last 3 years) or recent related clinical placement experience • Demonstrated expertise in pain and symptom management • Experience with management of central venous catheters and venous access devices or willingness to learn • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to function both independently and as a multidisciplinary team member in a fast-paced environment • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area • Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position Asset: • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing • Evidence of successful completion of palliative care coursework: Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care, CAPCE, DeSouza Palliative Care courses • Ability to speak another language Accommodation and Diversity Statement: Scarborough Health Network (SHN) embraces and celebrates our community’s unique multicultural heritage and diversity.
