POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior EIC Designer – Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Focus is responsible for developing and managing all aspects of instrumentation and control systems design for Oil & Gas and energy-related EPCM projects. This role requires 10+ years of experience with a strong emphasis on field instrumentation, control panel design, loop diagrams, and system integration. A proven track record leading design scope for I&C projects is essential.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
May include but are not limited to:
Lead and execute instrumentation and control design scope on multiple concurrent EPCM projects
Develop P&ID markups for instrumentation, instrument index, I/O lists, and control narratives
Prepare and review loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, junction box layouts, cable schedules, and termination drawings
Coordinate with electrical and process engineers to align instrumentation design with project requirements
Integrate vendor-supplied instrumentation and control systems into project deliverables
Prepare detailed instrument specifications and datasheets for procurement
Ensure compliance with CSA, ISA, API, and other relevant standards and client specifications
Support construction and commissioning teams with field support, redlines, and as-built drawings
Perform quality checks to ensure design integrity and adherence to internal standards
Participate in HAZOPs and design reviews, resolving technical issues during the design phase
QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution
10+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls design within Oil & Gas or industrial sectors
Strong working knowledge of control systems, instrumentation devices, and loop design fundamentals
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with SPI (INtools) is a strong asset
Experience working as a Lead I&C Designer on EPCM projects is preferred
Understanding of industry standards including ISA, CSA, API, and IEC
SKILLS
Advanced knowledge of control systems architecture and instrumentation layout
Ability to manage and coordinate drawing packages, document control, and revisions
Familiarity with electrical and I&C interface points, including control cabinets, PLC/DCS panels, and marshalling cabinets
Effective communicator, able to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including process, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Capable of balancing multiple priorities and project deadlines in a dynamic environment
