The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a SCADA Engineer for a secondment role supporting one of our key clients in Alberta’s power generation sector. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in SCADA systems design, integration, and support for power generation facilities. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of control systems across a range of generation assets.
Key Responsibilities
SCADA System Design & Integration: Lead the design, configuration, and deployment of SCADA systems for power generation facilities, ensuring seamless integration with field devices and control systems.
Client-Side Engineering Support: Represent the owner’s interests by coordinating with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure SCADA solutions meet operational and regulatory requirements.
System Upgrades & Optimization: Evaluate existing SCADA infrastructure and recommend improvements to enhance performance, cybersecurity, and data visibility.
Commissioning & Testing: Support commissioning activities, including FAT/SAT testing, system validation, and troubleshooting during start-up phases.
Cybersecurity & Compliance: Ensure SCADA systems comply with industry standards and cybersecurity best practices, including NERC CIP and other applicable regulations.
Data Management & Reporting: Develop and maintain system documentation, network diagrams, and operational reports to support ongoing monitoring and decision-making.
Troubleshooting & Support: Provide technical support for SCADA-related issues, including root cause analysis and resolution of system faults or communication failures.
Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with operations, IT, and engineering teams to ensure SCADA systems align with broader asset management and operational goals.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in SCADA engineering, with a focus on power generation systems (e.g., gas turbines, renewables, combined cycle plants).
Licensing: Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA
Technical Skills: Proficiency with SCADA platforms (e.g., GE iFIX, Wonderware, Ignition, ABB, Siemens), PLCs, RTUs, and communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850).
Cybersecurity Awareness: Familiarity with SCADA security standards and best practices.
Software Proficiency: Comfortable with network analysis tools, HMI development, and Microsoft Office Suite.
