Job Summary The Research Coordinator will provide research facilitation to support and advance ongoing research projects, as well as contribute to the development and execution of new research projects within a CIHR-funded program of research. This role will focus on the development of high-impact research outputs related to contraception use, health outcomes, health policy, and pharmaceutical systems. Key responsibilities include facilitating manuscript preparation and submission, coordinating multi-site research collaborations, contributing to grant writing, and supporting ongoing and new research projects. The position involves conducting literature reviews, analyzing quantitative data, co-authoring manuscripts, assisting with grant and ethics submissions, and coordinating research meetings and timelines. The Research Coordinator will work independently and collaboratively within a team of academic investigators, trainees, and staff to ensure timely and high-quality research dissemination. They will interact regularly with interdisciplinary project teams including national and international research partners, policy stakeholders, and funding agencies. Organizational Status The Collaboration for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE) is the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science’s multidisciplinary group of outcomes researchers specializing in epidemiology, health economics, health services research, and pharmacy practice research. Research conducted by CORE faculty members is directly aligned with the Faculty’s Health Outcomes theme. The research team is housed within CORE. The Research Coordinator will report directly to the Principal Investigator of this research group within CORE, Dr. Laura Schummers https://pharmsci.ubc.ca/directory/laura-schummers Work Performed Project Coordination and Knowledge Output Manage timelines and deliverables related to manuscripts, grant applications, and collaborative research projects Coordinate manuscript planning, drafting, editing, and submission processes Track ongoing analyses and writing projects and assist with version control, journal targeting, and response to peer review Lead the preparation and submission of grant applications in collaboration with investigators Maintain oversight of project milestones and ensure adherence to research and reporting timelines Organize and support team meetings, conference calls, and workshops involving research collaborators and knowledge users Coordinate the development and execution of knowledge translation products and activities, including journal articles, conference presentations, policy briefs, infographics, public messaging, and op-eds Research Support Conduct targeted literature reviews Assist with interpretation and presentation of findings from health administrative data or survey datasets Draft Data Analysis Plans and collaborate with team Statistician to complete data analyses Support Data Analysis Plan development for the range of projects across the research team, offering guidance to junior research assistants and graduate students Draft and edit research reports, policy briefs, and peer-reviewed manuscripts Prepare abstracts, slide decks, and posters for academic conferences Support ethics applications and research approvals as needed Provide quality assurance in all stages of analysis and manuscript development Communications Liaise with faculty members, trainees, and partner organizations to facilitate research progress and communication Contribute to research communication strategies, including writing for multiple audiences (academic, policy, and public) Collaborate with knowledge users, patient partners, and researchers to produce knowledge translation products and activities Develop and deliver posters and presentations about research studies and findings Consequence of Error/Judgement Complexity of Duties: This position involves a variety of projects and requires initiative and attention to detail. The Research Coordinator must be capable of coordinating tasks related to multiple projects. Accuracy and Accountability: This role requires careful attention to accuracy, timelines, and discretion. Errors in analysis or communication could compromise research quality, delay publications or funding submissions, and impact the unit’s reputation and stakeholder relationships. The Research Coordinator must exercise sound judgment in determining when to consult with team members or faculty leads. Communication: The Research Coordinator must communicate clearly and effectively in both written and interpersonal forms. Clear and concise writing is required in the preparation of research communications, manuscripts, reports, grant proposals, presentations and website materials. Deadlines: Projects in this program of research have strict deadlines with funding agencies, government bodies, and publishers. Supervision Received The Research Coordinator works as part of a research team but will receive relatively little direct day-to-day supervision. The Research Coordinator must be able to identify circumstances that require consultation with appropriate associates - Principal Investigator, other researchers, or other staff - and must be able to seek out that consultation in a timely and professional manner. Supervision Given The Research Coordinator may provide direction to students and junior researchers as necessary to facilitate the completion of projects. Minimum Qualifications Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion Preferred Qualifications Master's degree or Doctorate in a discipline related to health policy or health services research, with successful completion of graduate-level quantitative methods courses preferred At least 3 years of experience conducting scholarly research, preferably on health and health care is desired. Must be familiar with university research environments and grant funding processes. Authorship or co-authorship of scholarly publications would be an asset. The following skills and abilities are necessary to be successful in the position: Ability to identify and implement research methods appropriate for quantitative research questions. Critical understanding of issues related to health and health care analysis. Ability to conduct statistical analyses of health-related data and/or surveys. Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team. Excellent time-management skills and demonstrated ability to direct multiple projects. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to develop and deliver academic presentations effectively.
