Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $22.07 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024) Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $34.73 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024) In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. Key Responsibilities: Instruct and supervise undergraduate students during scheduled manufacturing lab sessions. Set up and maintain lab equipment for hands-on experiments related to: Metal forming and plastic deformation Composites manufacturing CNC machining and manual machining Advanced manufacturing and rapid prototyping Design for manufacturability and waste reduction Metrology and quality systems Utilize DEFORM 3D software to demonstrate and support simulation-based instruction. Apply principles of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and lean manufacturing where applicable. Assist in configuring and troubleshooting CNC systems and prototyping equipment. Support lab preparation and improvement by collaborating with faculty and technical staff. Ensure safety procedures and best practices are followed during all lab activities. Qualifications Required: Postgraduate degree in Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related field. Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) is an asset Hands-on experience in manufacturing processes and related lab equipment. Proficiency in DEFORM 3D and working knowledge of CNC systems. Familiarity with metal forming, plastic deformation, machining, composites, and rapid prototyping. Understanding of DFSS, DFM, metrology, and quality systems. Strong communication and organizational skills, especially in a teaching environment. Preferred: Prior teaching or lab instruction experience at the university or technical level.
