Construction Worker - Term

Salary: Level 4 Step 1 ($2,548.50 bi-weekly)

Reporting to the Construction Supervisor, this position is responsible for carrying out construction,
repairs, renovations and upgrades to TH infrastructure and heritage sites in all areas related to the carpentry trade. The incumbent will assist in all related functions necessary to ensure the safety, security, and functionality of capital construction projects and team, adherence to national and Yukon building codes, preventative maintenance, risk assessments and the managing of inventories and supplies lists. The incumbent utilizes a variety of trade skills to complete required work on time, and providing progress updates to the supervisor. This position is also occasionally tasked with working on special projects, and for providing services at community or government gatherings and events.
An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 10-12 (or GED equivalent) with 3+ years of experience in performing basic repairs, renovations, and building maintenance tasks. An equivalent combination of education, knowledge, skills, and experience may be considered.
Apprenticeship enrollment is an asset.
Training or experience in general building trades, including carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
Knowledge of and ability to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools.
Knowledge of hazards and safe work practices with respect to general building maintenance.
Experience in dealing with the public in a service capacity.
Basic knowledge of national and Yukon Building Codes, or a willingness to learn.
Conditions of Employment:
Criminal Records Check.
Class 5 driver’s license with a clear driver’s abstract.
Commitment to take / update OH&S training, including First Aid, WHMIS, TDG’s, Fall Restraint, Confined Workspaces, hazard assessments and development of safe operating procedures.
TH101 Cultural Awareness training.
