Job Summary Job Description Principal SaaS Architect What is the opportunity? Strategically partners with internal teams and critical third-party application vendors to deliver key client and employee services using SaaS. In the past, many of these application providers were deployed on-premises, where RBC controlled much of the deployment, operational, and security implications. RBC ensured they were deployed with a best practice, secure, resilient manner, leveraging industry-leading practices to address RBC's risk standards. However, we are in the midst of a fundamental shift in the industry. These third party application providers are moving to new as a Service delivery models (e.g., Software as a Service), which poses a new set of opportunities, challenges, and risks to RBC. The Principal SaaS Architect will be responsible for delivering SaaS architecture and setting the technological vision, drive the SaaS technology standards, patterns, best practices and ensure the technical design of the SaaS landscape for the Enterprise. This role will partner closely with RBC stakeholders in Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, Cloud, Risk, and Internal & External Delivery teams to enable effective SaaS architecture best practices and sound design principles across the entire SaaS lifecycle. In addition, they will support the design, build and transition to our new SaaS risk and governance capabilities, specifically around Technology and Architecture and the set up and execution of the SaaS Architecture Review Board (ARB) that will help more effective management and partnering with our third-party providers. We are looking for people who can create a culture of transparency, trust, and teamwork and help our engineering teams reach their potential and have fun. As a Principal SaaS Architect, you will manage multiple engagements and align them to the team goals, build a library of SaaS design and architectural patterns. What will you do? This position requires excellent technical skills as well as outstanding analytical, leadership and influencing skills paired with solid business acumen. It is a cross-functional leadership role that requires consensus building and communication with all levels in the organization. Implement a SaaS architecture framework, with supporting processes to ensure third party solutions are in line with RBC’s business, technology, security and regulatory requirements. Maintain a range of SaaS architecture practices, capabilities, processes, and tools to identify and assess SaaS solutions for weaknesses. Maintain an updated inventory of all Data assets residing with the SaaS suppliers that are supporting business processes or functions. The bank data asset management process should address classification of assets to facilitate risk identification and assessment, record configurations to ensure data integrity, provide for the safe disposal of data at the end of their life cycle. Determining overall SaaS architectural principles, frameworks and standards Driving research, case studies and prototypes on leading edge technologies and how they can be leveraged Designing proof-of-concept pilots and working closely with technical leads to drive successful POC implementations What do you need to succeed? Must haves Total IT experience of at least 15 of which at least 5 years doing Solution or integration Architecture on large complex projects with SaaS products Needs to have breadth and depth of experience in Applications, Networks, Security and Data Must have a track record of building and deploying mission critical, highly distributed, large scale SaaS applications Must have demonstrable experience designing end-to-end architecture involving mobile systems, embedded software and cloud services Must have strong knowledge of failure modes, resiliency patterns, and techniques to enable robust, self-healing architecture Must have strong understanding of embedded systems, mobile applications and related technologies Experience with at least one and preferably more than one of the programming languages C#, C++, Java, Javascript Nice to haves Influence. Ability to gain agreement and support for ideas and initiatives.
