Calendar Description: A detailed study and comprehensive development of architectural proposals for complex building types and site conditions; the exploration of coherent initial concepts with respect to programmatic requirements, image and form; subsequent elaboration leading to meaningful and technologically viable designs for the built environment. Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) Student Performance Criteria (SPC): A1, A4, A5, A7, A8 Topic and themes: Design of large-scale mixed-use building with a multi-family housing component that explores integration of social aspects (e.g., aging), affordability and incorporate sustainable features. The project begins with precedent studies (A1). Design theory (A1) is covered through lectures. A4 and A5, program and site analysis, form the basis of the midterm design proposal. A7, detail design and A8, documentation, are required in the final assessment (i.e. final review). Coordination: Please note that to better coordinate and manage student workload, instructors will be expected to work closely with colleagues and administration ahead of the semester to confirm scope, schedule, and assignments.
