Calendar Description: A project-based graduate studio focused on the integration of skills and research to tackle contemporary global issues in architecture and urban design. Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) Student Performance Criteria (SPC): A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6. Topic and themes: The studio will focus on the design of a large-scale building with cultural and social significance [A2]. The studio begins with thematic research and precedent studies (A1). Projects will be developed incrementally over the course of the semester using a variety of drawings and models [A3]. Building proposals will be developed at a range of scales (1:500-1:20). Building projects will require use of a detailed base program of functions and spaces. This program can be adjusted depending on project design intentions [A4]. Each building proposal must situate itself intelligently within a specific site [A5]. Coordination: Please note that to better coordinate and manage student workload, instructors will be expected to work closely with colleagues and administration ahead of the semester to confirm scope, schedule, and assignments. Deadlines and tests will be finalized with the larger team and following conversations regarding resources and technical support.
