About Friends of Ruby
Friends of Ruby is dedicated to supporting the well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 16-29 through mental health services, social programs, and housing. We operate a Youth Drop-In Centre, offering barrier-free counselling, hot meals, and community programming, and a Transitional Home, providing emergency and long-term housing with life-skills support.
If you are passionate about creating safe, inclusive spaces for marginalized youth, this is your chance to make an impact as a Housing Support Intern.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Provide emotional support and assist youth with coping strategies.
Recognize and respond to crises, offering de-escalation support.
Support youth with daily activities, including cooking, cleaning, and personal hygiene.
Help youth navigate and access essential community resources.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to foster independent living.
Maintain accurate documentation and report youth progress.
Advocate for youth rights and educate on mental health support.
Participate in ongoing training and attend supervision sessions.
What You Bring
Experience or background in social services, mental health, or a related field.
Understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and anti-oppressive practices.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Lived or working experience in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community is an asset.
CPR/First Aid and CPI training is an asset.
