The Opportunity:
As a Senior Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Specialist, you will be responsible for leading EIA’s, supporting consultation and engagement activities with external stakeholders, and preparing EIA documentation for nuclear, electricity transmission, renewable energy, mining, and other energy related projects. You will rely on your demonstrated experience navigating EIA requirements, environmental permitting, and related authorization processes relevant to development projects in Ontario. Experience with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act and/or the federal Impact Assessment Act is essential. You will work with a dynamic and experienced team as a key member to serve a variety of exciting clients and projects.

A day in the life:
You will direct the environmental planning and impact assessments for multi-disciplinary projects in nuclear, transmission, renewable energy, infrastructure, mining, and oil and gas sectors.
You will guide the preparation of regulatory roadmaps, environmental permit plans, environmental protection plans and monitoring plans, and the implementation of environmental monitoring programs.
You will undertake quality reviews of project deliverables, including EIAs and technical documents that support regulatory approvals.
You will offer technical leadership to the team, providing strategic advice and oversight, and using strong project management skills to deliver high-quality products and services to our clients.
You will consult with regulators and clients, and oversee innovative programs that engage Indigenous communities and project stakeholders.
You will contribute to the growth of the team by developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key clients, identifying new project opportunities, and supporting proposals for the team.
You will support the team’s workload and resource planning, contribute to the group’s business plan, and work with your colleagues to develop marketing strategies.
You will mentor junior and intermediate staff, identifying career goals and development opportunities for them, and for yourself
You will ensure health and safety policies are followed and be a role model for WSP's Life Saving and corporate values.
You will primarily be home/office-based, but will travel for short duration trips and events.

Bachelor or Master degree in planning, environmental studies, environmental science, environmental engineering or a related discipline
At least 10 years of experience conducting and managing EIAs in Ontario, or elsewhere in Canada
Experience managing complex projects and multi-disciplinary teams
Experience with business development, proposal writing and building client relationships
Experience as a Project Manager, Senior EIA Specialist or Senior Environmental Planner
Experience working with Ontario and federal regulators
Experience in the planning and delivery of stakeholder and Indigenous engagement programs, including the use of innovative virtual engagement tools
