The Role:
As an Interior Acoustics Engineer, you will play an advisory role on a major capital rehabilitation project by supporting a multidisciplinary project team in enhancing and standardizing acoustic performance across a complex historic building. This is a part-time, remote role ideal for an experienced professional with deep technical knowledge and an appreciation for heritage conservation.
What You’ll Do:
Advisory Support: Review and validate existing acoustic principles. Recommend refinements and mitigation strategies to improve acoustic performance across diverse interior environments.
Standardization: Contribute to the development of standardized acoustic performance guidelines that will be used both for this project and to inform future initiatives.
Best Practices & Strategic Input: Provide insights into current best practices and industry standards, with a focus on complex institutional and heritage settings.
Stakeholder Engagement: Clearly communicate acoustic strategies, performance expectations, and recommendations to a broad group of stakeholders. Translate technical language into practical concepts for non-technical audiences.
Heritage Considerations: Ensure all recommendations align with heritage conservation priorities and precedents from similar projects.
Remote Collaboration: Work independently and provide subject matter expertise remotely, with potential for 1–2 site visits if required.
What You’ll Bring:
A collaborative mindset and a deep respect for the intersection of acoustics and heritage conservation.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Acoustical Engineering, Architecture, Physics, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in acoustics consulting, ideally in large-scale capital, institutional, or heritage building projects.
Expertise in developing or applying acoustic strategies without requiring detailed design or calculations.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly and concisely.
Familiarity with relevant Canadian and international acoustic standards and guidelines.
Experience working with public sector clients or projects considered an asset.
Memberships or certifications such as INCE Bd. Cert., ASA, CAA, LEED AP, or WELL AP are considered assets.
