Unposting Date: 2025-08-13 11:59 PM Your role We are looking for an editor for a 10-month contract (September 8, 2025 to July 5, 2026) who will be assigned primarily to regional news for our Ottawa team. The successful candidate will be expected to perform the duties of an editor, contributing creatively to programming by often innovating to produce distinctive visual effects given the scope and time constraints of the program. The successful candidate will have good video and photography skills, be highly involved in contributing content, and be bilingual. The candidate will also be required to perform specialized editing for the production of news programs, and to contribute creatively to programming, often innovating to produce distinctive visual and audio results. Work is generally performed according to accepted CBC/Radio-Canada or industry standards, but there is latitude for independent action, judgment and initiative within established procedures. Duties are performed under the direction of the Program Manager or other employees, but the incumbent will be required to work without immediate supervision. Work is usually performed within established program formats and normally under great pressure. Duties: Performs editing tasks required in the production of television news and current affairs programs, making a creative contribution to programming, given the scope and time constraints of the program, when production requirements are clear. Work is performed generally in accordance with accepted CBC/Radio-Canada or industry standards, but assignments require the ability to act autonomously, exercise judgment and take initiative. Performs all or part of the function or duties of an equivalent or lower classification under the direction of program personnel or others, but sometimes without immediate supervision. Work usually follows established formats. Pressure is normally high. Activities: Assemble elements from various sources to produce audio and video program segments conforming to a predefined format. Prepare, configure and integrate visual elements to ensure optimal technical and aesthetic quality, taking into account production constraints. Maintain the artistic and technical integrity of content at all stages of production. Select and add existing visual effects to hardware or software. Select and apply visual effects using specialized software or computer systems. Evaluate and select program or archive material, perform audio and video editing, including cutting dialogue tracks for archiving or post-production. Formulate proposals and recommendations to resolve technical issues or achieve desired results. Prepare a complete and accurate list of editing decisions. Select appropriate equipment and set up editing facilities in OB vans as required. Maintain a basic library of plans and archive material. Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to ensure optimal system operation, providing technical and operational advice as required. Performs all or part of the duties of an equivalent classification or lower. Performs all or part of the following duties: Participate in meetings on program topics. We are looking for a candidate with the following profile: College diploma in television arts or related field; or equivalent industry experience Excellent command of technical aspects and solid understanding of production methods Three (3) years' specialized experience in news Bilingualism required (English, French); Understanding of image composition and lighting with a single camera Good knowledge of current events Knowledge of information technology and digital tools (FTP, NGCN, Dejero, iPhone, DSLR camera) - an asset Experience in publishing content on social media - an asset Ability to edit recorded elements using appropriate systems, including Avid Media Composer Knowledge of Photoshop and After Effects - ADOBE software an asset Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada Journalistic Standards and Practices Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and maintain a calm, professional attitude Demonstrated leadership and ability to assemble the elements of a story independently, with rigor, originality and quality Strong ability to work as part of a team Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Initiative, creativity and proven problem-solving skills Willingness to work flexible hours, including frequent unscheduled overtime and weekends Valid driver's license Valid passport and willingness to travel within the country and abroad for work, including to high-risk areas such as war or insurgency zones Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
