Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Business and IT, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in INFR 4661U – Intro. to Penetration Testing.
Course Description:
This course provides students with theoretical and hands-on knowledge of security analysis from an offensive perspective. Content will be aligned with industry-standard penetration testing assessment methodologies to ensure consistency across engagements, regardless of the infrastructure being tested. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to conduct a basic methodical security analysis of enterprise systems and communicate findings effectively to C-level executives.

Tuesdays 6:40pm – 9:30pm

Wednesday 5:10pm – 8:00pm

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.
This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.
Qualifications:
In addition to the Required Education, Required Skills, and Required Experience set out below, the successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level, with demonstrated potential for making excellent contributions to teaching.
Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently, and will be for the duration of the contract, legally eligible to work in Canada.
Note that at present, this course is scheduled to be delivered in-person at Ontario Tech University’s North Campus in Oshawa, Ontario. However, the course delivery may shift to online delivery in consultation with the successful applicant. The University reserves the right to make the final decision about the modality in which this course is offered.
Required Education:
The successful applicant must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
? Hold a Masters in Computer Science; OR
? Hold an MSc in a field related to networking and information technology security; OR
? Hold a Bachelors degree in IT or computer science in combination with OSCP certification and documented industry experience in penetration testing.
Candidates who hold one of the aforementioned Masters or PhD/PhD (ABD) degrees are not required to hold OSCP certification, however, the OSCP certification is considered an important asset.

The successful candidate will have:
? Excellent communication skills.
? Strong organizational skills.
? Ability to respond to student enquiries and to grade assignments and exams in a timely manner.
? High level of comfort with interacting with students and colleagues using online modalities such as Google Meets and Kaltura.
? Ability to manage a course effectively using a Learning Management System.
? An ability to develop innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.
? An ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural and diverse community.
Required Experience:
? Industry experience in penetration testing is considered an important asset. Candidates should ensure that their CV and/or cover letter outline details about their industry experience related to penetration testing.
? Preference will be given to those candidates with demonstrated teaching excellence in Networking and IT Security in a post-secondary environment. Candidates can demonstrate their competence by submitting course evaluations and/or formal peer evaluations
Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
