The IPM Technician is responsible for maintaining healthy, pest-free crops at Freeman Herbs. This role involves leading the IPM initiative to achieve low pest counts and ensuring the effective implementation of preventative measures for pest and disease control.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with members of the grow team to build and execute IPM program for conventional crops.
Possesses comprehensive knowledge of pesticides, including appropriate product selection for various situations.
Coordinate with the IPM team to implement and complete weekly and daily beneficial insect plans.
Coordinate and organize IPM materials, including greenhouse spraying equipment and chemicals.
Work with growers to continually update IPM program and oversee its effective implementation.
Assist with pesticide paperwork, including safety and tracking information.
Work closely with the receiving and purchasing departments to inspect all incoming beneficials, ensuring they meet quality standards, and monitor storage conditions including temperature and humidity.
Maintain multi-species banker system
Build on existing process to improve current banker production, consistency and reliability.
Apply biological controls and collaborate with growers by providing recommendations for biological product purchases.
Organize and assist with bios release
Walkthroughs with bio suppliers to keep up to date industry knowledge and experts recommendations.
Attend and participate in grower’s meetings, to improve our IPM program.
Ensure proper maintenance and organization of all scouting and protective equipment in designated areas.
Maintain a clean and temperature-controlled spray room, ensuring all products are properly organized and clearly labeled.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Other duties as assigned.
Education:
Horticulture college diploma or a bachelor’s in science degree required
Valid Pesticide/Spray license.
Experience:
Previous greenhouse and/or IPM experience required.
Skills:
Self-motivated, demonstrated leadership skills.
Knowledge in common greenhouse pests.
Experience in greenhouse environment is an asset.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Skills in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
Available to work rotating weekends for watering.
