What you'll do:
Reporting to the Manager of Actuary and Analytics, Research and Development, this position is responsible for providing statistics and other types of information for internal and external requests; this involves querying, extracting data, verifying, and manipulating statistics for use in various reports.
Retrieve and prepare accurate and concise reports for research analysis, data predications, board reports, briefing notes, corporate planning, appeals, the SCIC Internet site, and for corporate publications.
Retrieve geographical statistics and integrate with the ESRI software suite to create maps and imagery for project analysis.
Liaise, collaborate, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to provide accurate and consistent statistical information and geographic maps.
Extract data and verify its accuracy.
Compile current and accurate statistical information, applying a variety of quantitative and qualitative statistical techniques.
Create and maintain complex spreadsheets.
Review and analyze prepared statistics and other printed material to extract significant information and to write concise summaries.
Classify and compile data by preparing tables, graphs, charts, maps, and other summaries.
Ensure reported data is shared and protected appropriately following SCIC policies.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this position you will need a two-year Diploma in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, or related field supplement with two-years demonstrated experience in manipulating data. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SQL skills querying from structured data sources.
Ability to manipulate data in excel using sorting functions, formulas, pivot summaries, macros, graphing, histograms, conditional formatting, etc. to provide user friendly report viewing and understanding.
Analytical skills, with the ability to gather, manipulate, and analyze large volumes of data, facts, figures and numbers.
Organizational skills, with the ability to complete a variety of complex and detailed tasks with accuracy while remaining aware of competing and changing priorities.
Self-motivated, exhibiting initiative to independently seek out and stay current with emerging trends in technology.
Basic knowledge and understanding of agriculture terminology.
Communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders to understand requests, and explain the data in a non-technical way.
Knowledge of the ESRI suite of products considered an asset.
Should the successful candidate participate in the Crop Insurance or AgriStability Programs, their account must be in good standing.
